Electrics behaving strangely in Octavia

Featured Replies

I drive a skoda octavia 2006 1.9 Tdi. From last two days the electronics are behaving strangely in my first. First I noticed the battery drain. Then I went to the battery dealer he told me that the amplifier of my music system is on even after the removal of keys so I decided to disconnect it. Then today the high beam hid are stuck to on even after the removal of keys. Now to battery is disconnected from the car. Any possible reasons for this behaviour guys???

Seems that a less than 100% battery can cause weird issues like that. I used to get a ABS error intermittantly. Changed the battery to a Bosch S5 096 780A CCA 77A/h and never had a problem since. Loads of cranking power so starts easily on even the coldest days.

Got mine for £80 delivered from justcarbatteries website. Fantastic battery and it has a 5 year warranty.

But how can a partially charged battery lead lights to remain on even after the power is cut by removing the keys.

Is it possible to determine what faults (if any) there are logged on the car's ECU or whatever the central computer thingy is called?

There is maybe not the correct voltage or current range required for electronic components to operate correctly. It may also be something like a bad earth which would give a similar issue.

Today I went to a car electrical specialist. He told me the same thing . He also said that the replacement for this stalk with cruise control is impossible to find in India. So now I'll be searching for a skoda octavia l&k stalk . This car is now really getting on my viens. Every week it has a new problem with the maximum of expenditure possible..

Will the Electrician remove the steering or can he just check that connector without doing so?? Because I am a little busy in my office and if there is no need to remove the steering column then I can get it checked today only...

so now I'll have to find a mechanic that can do this on sunday. because that is the only day when I'll be free to get this job done.

So finally today I got the stalk assembly installed. But now the stalk which I have installed does not have the cruise control buttons. The auto parts dealer told me that it is not possible to get it here in India. So I asked the electrician to open the stalk which was damaged. I saw a plastic button type thing which was melted. There was no resemblence that could have fit in there so I'll have to wait untill I find that piece that can fit there.Already missing my awsome cruise control... :(

Oh!! Thanks mike... u made my day much bettr than it was till now... thank you

If the car was bought in India why aren't the spare parts also available?

I'm assuming the car was supplied with cruise control fitted? Have you tried contacting Skoda?

Either way the cheapest way will be to source from eBay.

My apologies for jumping into this thread, but I suspect that maybe I've got something of a fault with this Column Controller too.

Saturday driving to Perth from Edinburgh - cruise control to the Forth Bridge, switched off going over and then it failed to come back on afterwards.  Two stops after that and it still wouldn't come on.  Monday still not there, but this morning (Tuesday) it was back again and working fully.  Glitch or something more sinister ?

Sounds like the switch needs opening and cleaning with a cotton bud and contact cleaner. Its a common problem, easily rectified, and a site search should lead you to a pdf guide....

Thanks Adamal - "Its a common problem, easily rectified,".  I take encouragement from those few words -  it's the 'easily rectified' that worries me though !!!! The ones on the right hand stem are occasionally a bit unwilling so I suspect now that's the same problem.

Again thanks
