Panoramic roof creaking

Featured Replies

Hello

My recently acquire 2010 Yeti has developed a creaking noise from the panoramic roof. Looking through this website and others it would seem that the roof needs greasing.

Given that I generally prefer to do all my own maintenance, does anyone by any chance have a write-up of the procedure for this?

Cheers

The sunroof on mine (Tibet 2) is creaking and rattling when closed - sounds like something is loose. The dealer (Allam) is being helpful - they've taken a listen, agree it's noisy and think it needs a special lubricant which they've ordered from Skoda. Said they have another customer with the same issue...

Hope that's helpful.

Mine (2013 Elegance) had a rattle when closed. This was identified/ confirmed by the dealer's technician on a check drive on a rough road surface. He confirmed they had done a few others under warranty so off mine went - 3 days entire roof stripped out but pretty well fixed and no difficulty with the dealer. I have seen a copy manual which shows a lubrication procedure for the rails/ seals - if I can get access mitt be able to take a copy on how to do. I'm sure some other members may well have to hand.

Hello

Thanks for your replies. It's the dealer info for the lubrication procedure that I'm after. I suspect that if I actually spend some time looking at the roof I might work out how to do it, but obviously a lot easier and quicker if the official manual extract can be obtained. I asked my local dealer if I could have a look at it, but they (understandably) said no.

Hello, have now had a look at the roof from above, and it's not immediately obvious how it should be undone for greasing. given it's only a one hour labour charge can't imagine it's particularly difficult. Does nobody really have the Skoda official procedure?

Cheers

Have a look at this Youtube video of the Yeti production line.

At 18.20 minutes the operator can be seen doing up screws that hold the unit in place.

3 days versus 1 hour ?  :dull:

My L&K was in for it's first service a couple of weeks ago and I asked them to check the sunroof as it rattles (when open) when going over a bumpy road.  They checked it, agreed there was a rattle, and have booked it in again next week to be fixed under warranty.  They said it was a fairly big job as the sunroof had to come out, so it's booked in for 2 days.

Looks like an interesting link, think I need to have a watch when I get home!

It is watch out for the hooded bots and when they all clock out for lunch.

Thanks for the replies.

Mine rattles when closed, and I hope it does require full removal. i have now found the procedure for greasing panoramic roof on the Tiguan, and will compare in detail next to my car to see if similar. Hopefully it will be and again, hopefully, greasing will resolve the issue.

Cheers

The same is happening to mine. Could you share the procedure (on the Tiguan)?, is it similar?, I have been trying applying Silicone, Vaseline, grease and the noice comes back after one day, I don´t know what else to do

Thanks!

Applying any form of grease will attract dirt/grit...then you a have a nice lapping block in there somewhere.

Both Allams and Marlborough have lubricated my creaking sunroof (only creaked when it was closed and the weather was hot and dry) and in both cases they fixed the problem. Allams a year ago and Marlborough last week when the car was serviced.

Silicone grease will soak into the rubber quite quickly whilst still providing a lubricant and not attracting "dirt"

No comment. Other than to repeat, any grease will attract dirt/grit...

Well I can only go on 11 years experience of selling Kent Industry K44 Silicone Grease, and of using the same product for even longer lubricating all the door rubbers on my cars, plus the numerous owners on here who have used GummiPflege to lubricate the rubbers on various orifices of their Yeti's.

Both products soak into the rubbers but do not leave any residue on the surface to attract dirt or grit.

11 years and you did not know it was non-silicone,

http://www.autogeek.net/1z-einszett-rubber-care-stick.html

1Z Einszett Rubber Care Stick “Gummi Pflege” is a real standout product among rubber protectants because it is water-based and non-silicone. Silicone gives rubber products their shine but it attracts dust and dries out the rubber over time. 1Z Einszett Rubber Care Stick protects the rubber under a safe, water-based formula that does not attract dust and it’s healthy for the rubber.

25 years in the offshore cable and connector business (5 years offshore) and the silicone grease, the tube/ paste form not spray, that we applied to rubbers seals did not soak in.

I will accept the note about the Gummi Pflege.

However I know the products I sold and how they worked.

Not all products are the same.

I'm out of here.

Hi... I'm new to this forum and have just ordered a Yeti 170bhp Outdoor DSG and have been perusing the Yeti forum.

Regarding the sunroof, which I had on my Tiguan, I had similar problems with rattles and juddering when closing the roof.

I was strongly advised not to grease it myself... Some of your comments about it harbouring grit etc is probably the reason why I was advised not to.

The pano sunroof on my Tig was replaced, including the subframe, at 3 months old..... Then at 13 months ..... Now it's 18 months old an it looks as if it's got the old problem back. Last week I met a lady with a Tig with the pano sunroof in a garden centre car park. I asked her if the roof caused any problems... She had just had to pay £1400 to get it fixed as it was out of warranty!

I'm pleased to see it doesn't seem such an issue on the Yeti.... Perhaps the body flexes less and doesn't stress the pano subframe as much.

Anyway I'm part exchanging my Tig 140bhp DSG for a 170bhp Yeti and am really looking forward to it.

P.S. I'm not risking the pano sunroof!
