Best application of Iphone of Octavia 3 Bolero-radio

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

We just placed an order of a mk3 Octavia today, keeping Aux + USB over Apple interface was a choice.

Now I am not sure that was clever...

So, can anyone shed some light on possibilities and solutions?

Both myself and the missus are using Iphones at the moment. Parents in law has a Cee'd with Apple connectivity that allows for radio and steering wheel to browse and somewhat control the Iphone and it's playlist. I'd like that aswell.

Now, I do understand the misses' wish for having USB and AUX connectivity, given we not always stick to Apple products.

But is there a way to find a compromise? Like using a CD-input for Apple connectivity or so, or perhaps I need to swap for Apple-connector and use CD-input for other jack or phono inputs from other devices?

Any help in sorting this out would be brilliant - I strongly regret we forgot to ask about it today when spec'ing other items...

What do you mean by cd input?

I get the aux, USB and phono etc but the CD input stumped me.

The only input options you get are the SD card, CD slot and either Aux/USB or mitsumi thingy.

As far as I know there's no other input options. As for apple control it's mitsumi or nothing I'm afraid.

Well, bluetooth but you can only skip forward or back tracks and that's it.

sorry for any unclarities. I have just ordered mk3 Octavia, but we forgot to ask about stereo interfaces etc, and kept to USB/Aux input.

As we both, currently, run Iphones, I am a little curious what are the best options for having the Bolero stereo playing along with best control and sound.

We are getting the canton 10 speaker upgrade, and some say the bluetooth streaming isn't the best in audio quality.

I don't know this new up to date electronics and fixings on newer VAG products, but have cought up with people retrofitting and expanding.

So are there ways of having the USB/Aux, and getting better Iphone adaption in addition?

Is there really a need for better than bluetooth sound sourcing?

We've got Bluetooth streaming on both our Skodas - a 2013 Superb and a 2013 Mk3 vRS - and the sound quality is fine.

I've got a 5S and SWMBO has a 5C and there's never been an issue with the quality of the music as far as I'm concerned, and I'm often described as a 'fussy ******' when it comes to sound quality.

You can play/pause and skip tracks from the steering wheel buttons and the track/album info comes up on the screen and dash. That's more than adequate for an in car audio connection via Bluetooth.

EDIT: ours has the Amundsen navigation unit but I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth streaming and control is the same across all head units.

You can buy an adapter for the USB/Aux connection which connects the the iPhone. (If I remember one of the one threads corectly they have just launched one with the "lightening" connector for the iPhone 5 too.)

I don't have an iPhone but I'd imagine with this connector it would show the phone as an Audio source in the Bolereo but I'm not sure about other functionality like album art or skipping albums, tracks through the steering wheel etc.

But you need the factory fitted Mitsumi option for this.

I use the USB for charging and Bluetooth for streaming from my Iphone 4S. I use Spotify as my player of choice and find the sound quality more than sufficient on the standard speakers. You can only skip forward and back from the steering wheel but that's ok for me as I tend to put my playlists on shuffle.

Like Dan I use the USB for charging and Bluetooth for music, steering wheel controls skip forward and back on tracks and if I want to change album or playlist I use siri.

Using siri does mean I have to take my hand off the wheel for a moment to press the home button but it's no different to say putting the air conditioning on.

Another good Iphone App is TuneIn Radio - its same app as Sonos use to stream their radio stations.

As long as you can get a data signal, you can stream any internet based radio station.  perfect for those areas where DAB reception is poor

A good tip is to go into 'sound' then 'volume' and set bluetooth (or aux if you're using that) volume to 'loud'. Makes a big difference to the sound. Obviously louder but seems more powerful in the bass too.

Mitsumi can't be retrofitted as the parts are factory fit only - but if you have the Mitsumi you can buy cables to connect USB / Aux devices at a later date if you move away from Apple products.

Not having Mitsumi is one of the errors made when I originally ordered - is it not too late to amend order?

That said, I have Canton upgrade and the Bluetooth streaming is excellent for playing music directly from iPhone or via spotify (downloaded and streamed tracks) - my opinion but Bluetooth streamed music sounds better than iPod / iPhone via Aux.
