Intelligent light assistant

Featured Replies

Intelligent light assistant seems very usefull and its not that expensive (300$) for what it should offer.

The question is does it work?

What are your experiences?

Its standard fit on UK Elegance spec cars. Its pretty good in truth; i find sometimes its pretty spot on but other times it can be a bit confused and dim witted, doesnt clock oncoming cars on corners quick enough at times, sometimes if there is a very short gap between a car passing and one approaching it flicks to mains and back to dipped and the car coming towards thinks your flashing them, alos have had it get confused with signpost reflections but doesnt happen v often.

That said I do use it and its pretty handy, not sure id pay $300 for the privilege though.

Yep, I'd second most of that, its a touch slow to drop the main beam for oncoming cars but I've never had an oncoming car flash their mainbeams back at me so, I'm probably noticing it more than other road users.  Very big road sign do reflect back at the car and this can turn down the mainbeam also but, I find only does this just before the glareback from the road sign becomes too much for me the driver so, its a good thing.

Overall, I like the ILA and leave both the automatic lights and the ILA active at all times, like Pipsyp I got them free on the UK Elegance and for $300 I think I'd learn to turn the mainbeam on and off myself but, each to their own.

In my opinion the system works well (90-95%) with small issues.

It switches off high beams only when actually "see" the oncoming car's lights. Response time around 0,5-1 sec.

This is a little bit slow.

You have no chance to set the sensitivity.

I asked my dealer to set it more sensitive somehow but no official way. Someone told me that in his Audi he can set it and the system works perfectly.

Some drivers flashing at me on hilly roads. The oncoming car's driver can see my high beams earlier and don't understand why I keep the high beams switched on.

Issues:

- big trucks with big reflecting areas (stickers) on the back (there's a lot in our country) - the system turns off the high beams only around 100 meters (happened many times). They hated me...

- old cars with weak rear lights - the same problem

- city lights and approaching a car - sometimes reacts too late (about 500 meters)

- sometimes when you approach a car and the same time an oncoming car passes it turns on high beams... :(

- on motorway: bad idea to use the system, too much different sources of light and sometimes the system get confused and switches to high beam when you don't want to.

Walking man with flashlight in his hand - the system recognised him and turned off ligh beams :D

It's a little bit complicated to turn off the system (see owner's manual). If it's activated but currently on low beam you have to turn on high beams first and then you can deactivate the system. No chance with oncoming traffic without disturbing other drivers.

I think this system is very good on dark and quirky roads from town to town. In full darkness it never makes a mistake.

Theese issues are bigger for me with xenons.

Turn mine off. I find it too slow to respond..could be me though..I've always driven in a way that if I can see headlights or rear lights then you can be sure they'd be able to see my high beam. I prefer to control when they're on.

You can turn it off by just switching the headlights from Auto to Dipped Beam and back to Auto again very quickly can't you?

Thank you very much!! :)

I'm coming from my garage just tried it and works!

The xenons stay on during this switching (to Dipped Beam and back to Auto) so no problem.

This method is missing from the Owners Manual :D

Anyway...hopefully the sensitivity of the system is adjustable somehow with VCDS...

I did some search on the net but find nothing.

Woow.

I did a search again and I find something related to Golf mk7.

Maybe the same on Octy 3??

This looks interesting. I'll have a look later today. On our trip through the autobahn yesterday night(we did 1053 miles) through Germany and Austria I thought it switched off way too late. Did have a few lorry drivers flash at me too so switches it off and did it manually in stead.

I'm very interested...Please post your experiences.
