The worst I've driven is our works Escort Diesel van, a 1.8 diesel with about 55 bhp IIRC, its dangerously slow. Joining the central motorway in Newcastle is almost suicide!

i learnt to drive in a diesel 1.6 non turbo corsa.

singularly the WORST' date=' SLOWEST, MOST GUTLESS car i have ever had the displeasure of having to drive.

it had a 0-60 time of several days, it was almost dangerous.[/quote']

Sure it wasn't the 1.5 Isuzu engine that came from the Nova? Not sure there was a 1.6 D

Also, they do definetly sell a 1.7CDTi Corsa.

Yep, in fact one of the members on here traded in his Fabia for one ;) Forget his name (Turbostream?), but he had a pic of Julie Walters from Dinnerladies as his avatar

Chris

Late Novas and early Corsa were available with a 1.5 TD which was apparently quite nippy. They were then available with a 1.7 Non Turbo, then the Isuzu 1.7 TD then the Vauxhall 1.7 DTi and then the 1.7 CDTi.

The diesel available now is the 1.3 CDTi which IIRC has more power than the outgoing 1.7 CDTi.

To be honest i'd never heard of a non turbo recent Corsa Diesel engine.

It's strange, as are some people. When i drive our Polo TDi i am the invisible man and driving is straightforward and nobody bothers me. When i drive the Fabia vRS every numpty within miles will appear and do anything to get past, even when i'm just minding my own business.

I thought my ears were burning.(my avatar is Mrs Overall from Acorn Antiques)

Yes they did a SRI 1.7cdti corsa, one sits in my garage. Very nice too, as fast as my Pd100 fabia built as well the fabia and handles like a go cart.

the 1.5td in an nova was a cracker.. top speed was only about 110 (limited by the engine RPM.. but with a bit of tweeking turning the injector pump up, it got there feckin quickly)

When i was younger, i went to look at one.. full gsi bodykit, 16" speedlines and sprayed in cosworth blue... could take real gsi's up to 100 :D

Vaux also did do a 1.6D - but this was many many years ago.. talking mk2 cavalier and mk2 astra... almost 20yrs

try a 1.7d Lupo!!! 2 weeks to get to 60 :(

The new 1.7 CDTI is still the isuzu lump with the latest emmsions gear on it.

Just had a look while checking oil level and there is a isuzu badge on the fuel rail.

The 1.3 CDTi is 70bhp and 90bhp (Astra) FWIW

been there, done that, blown it up :D

you want to try driving my works transit. no joke, 0-60 in 49 seconds.

flat road aswell. very nearly ran out of road. heap of $hit.

Slowest car award must surely go to the Citroen AX 1.3 Diesel (non turbo) that I learnt to drive in many moons ago, just to make it slower tho it was knackered too,

I can go up hills in 4th gear in modern cars that the AX required 1st!! - No joke.

I believe the 1.3 CTDi engine is a Fiat lump. They use it in the new panda and apparently it's a stonker (for it's size obviously). How do you improve a Vauxhall? Stick a fiat engine in it!

I'm cheating here but the slowest car on the road has to be the Nissan Serena MPV thing. 0-60 of nearly 20 seconds!

Decided before that I was sick of being stuck in the house' date=' and being as it is a lovely day oop north, I decided to have a nice drive out.

As I headed towards the A68 near Hexham, I noticed a blue Corsa, and it turned off and went the same way I did. I was not really going for it, but driving at what I consider to be a normal speed for a NSL road - about 70 mph. He too, was making progress, well, at least as much progress as you can make in a 1.7 diesel corsa (non turbo I gather).

So, up the A68 we go (towards Darlington), and there is a dual carraigeway stretch at the beginning. I just cruised up there and Corsa boy pulls out into the right lane to overtake a 4x4, I do too, and even though I was in 5th, this diesel seems to be struggling a bit up the hill, so before you know it I was close up behind him. He pulls over, and I decide that since he wasnt going that slow, I just pull in behind, as I'm not really out for a race.

Anyway, we keep hitting slower moving traffic and he keeps overtaking the traffic, as do I, when the chance arises. His overtaking at this point was ok, maybe cutting it a little close at times considering what he was in, but nothing too bad.

This continues for many miles, until I reach a particularly steep twisty stretch of the A68, which has a crawler lane. Predictably the Corsa starts to struggle again, so I seized the opportunity to pass, and took him on the right hand lane and despatch him fairly easily.

Soon after that however, the road turns to a single lane road again, and I have to slow down for a 30 zone, so I do. Predictably the Corsa comes racing up behind me at probably 50+ and starts tailgating. I take the opportunity to see who is driving, and its some young lad with sunglasses on, and his wench in the passenger seat. I can tell he obviously did not like being overtaken.

We then come to the next 60 stretch, so I speed up in third, and start leaving him behind again, when I got held up at 45 mph by a guy driving a very good condition mk2 Astra SRI. Again, Corsa boy races up behind me. There is a turning off to the right so the Astra indicates to go right. So what does muppet boy in the Corsa try to do? Yep, thats right, he tries to overtake. Luckily, the guy in the Astra saw what he was up to, and stopped him by pulling into his path. Corsa boy then did an emergency stop and pulled back in behind me.

So, the Astra gets in my way, and I can see the Corsa is ready to try and overtake, but I am in second ready, so I just think "right lets teach this muppet a lesson", so I just floor it in every gear up to about 4th, doing about a ton, and leave him far behind. I begin to ease off back down to about 85, when I came up behind a Vectra which itself was stuck behind a lorry.

It seemed to take Corsa boy about 2 minutes to catch up, but again he appeared in my mirror. So, going up a hill, with only a relatively short stretch of visible straight, personally I would only have attempted an overtake here if I had a SERIOUS amount of power under my right foot. Corsa boy thinks "oh well I've got a run up here" so he pulls out to overtake, gets past me, just gets past the Vectra, but then a car comes the other way and he has to take drastic action, cue the panic from him as the oncoming car slams its brakes on, he does the same, and just manages to squeeze in the gap between the Vectra and lorry.

What an absolute muppet. Because his pride was dented by his brand new Corsa wiesel being overtaken on a bend by a 15 year old Golf, on two occaisions he felt it neccesary to restore his "pride" by trying to overtake, and twice nearly having an accident in the process. Personally, I thought it was hilarious. God knows what his wench thought of it all...

At this point, I just let him go off on his way, and at times, I could see his overtaking was very questionable, he obviously had a very dented ego by this stage as on numerous occaisions he again found himself in the path of an oncoming vehicle.

What is it with people like this? Just because his crappy little car couldnt go up a hill at more than 50 mph, and mine could, he felt it neccesary to risk peoples lives on more than one occaision to prove some kind of point... not sure what that point was, but the only point it proved to me is that young muppets in underpowered corsas think they are damon hill or something... :thumbdwn:[/quote']

It was me in that Corsa ! I wondered who the Muppet was in a Golf !! LOLOLOLOLOL :rofl::rofl:

The AX 1.5D I'm driving right now whilst waiting for the Furby is actually quite fast because it ways less than a sack of potatoes (well, nearly) - the 0.6 time is 12 secs or so amazingly. The 1.4s were a lot less powerful than the 1.5s, but they aren't the worst cars in the world - I think yours was just seriously knackered.

Your not kidding, it was a total wreck and I paid the guy to teach me to drive in it, and just to make matters worse the instructor was virtually blind when he took his glasses off, which he did - frequently!

I'm sure it was a 1.3 tho - probably wrong but it was about 15 odd years ago!!

My first car bought from brand-spanking-new was an L reg 1.4D Pug 106 "Mardi Gras"...

I drove it, fully packed to the gills, to the south of Germany. Was OK but really had to plan your moves on the autobahns *well* in advance. Nice little car, no complaints. It was a car you were gonna get overtaken in, tho...
