RARB for a 1.2 86ps TSI

Featured Replies

Morning.

So after two days of drivng her new car, my wife's feedback is that she does not like the roll. Little bit suprised by this given that she spent three days in November driving a Fabia 1.2 as a courtesy car and at the time she said she liked it.

Which is why I bought one. Anyway, too late now.

My question is: Given that this is a ''low performance' car and the suspension will be set accordingly, is it worth getting an anti-roll bar fitted or should I get the suspension set-up adjusted / changed? I know this will knacker the warranty.

I am not going for looks here, I just want her to drive around Surrey's rural roads without feeling that she and Hunt Jnr are not going to leap off into a hedge.

Any ideas on roughly how much would this cost and somewhere in Surrey, East Sussex or western Kent that could do it?

Thanks

Matt

Unless you want to be going quick through corners, I wouldn't bother tbh.  BUT if you want to make it roll less, lower springs would be my first choice.  RARB is something  I would only think about afterwards, again if there is a need for it and you know what the handling is going to be like afterwards in terms of added oversteer.  It would never flip over even on standard springs, unless you are doing something really silly.

is this for a monte style fabia or just a normal model? The suspension setup is pretty much the same across all fabias- not particularly sophisticated.  The only difference being stiffer springs and dampers in the vRS and monte.

You might be able to get away with the Eibach springs which are offered for the vRS as on official accessory from Skoda without affecting the warrenty.  Even if it did, it would only affect the suspension aspect, not the entire car.

eibach springs from the dealer ownt knacer your warrenty. they are a dealer fit option :)

Thanks.

It is for an SE. I probably need to for a drive with Mrs H and see how she is doing it since I did not find the roll that bad. Springs are a good idea.

Tyre pressures set to suit the weight the car is carrying is a nice cheap thing to do.

Does the car you have come with what Skoda calls 'Sport' Suspension as standard or option,

or is that not an option on the 'SE' ?

EDIT,

looking at the Brochure now.

Is it on 15" Wheels with 195/55 R15 tyres. ?

Its an option on the SE George, for £105 if i remember correctly.

The SE comes with the Atari (if thats how its spelt) alloys. 195/55 r15, yeah :).

I dont suppose the 55 sidewall helps roll in any way haha.

Hello

Tyre pressure s...good point. Cannot be sure they got that right.

We are on normal suspension and yes those are the tyre sizes.

Another thing is how many miles on the car.?

If new and not many miles, the Suspension is still all 'Perky' and up there.

Get a few full size friends in the car, belt them in and go for a wee trip.

That soon has the newness off Springs, Dampers, Bushes etc.

Then get the tyre pressures right for light usage,

it might roll a bit less.

But if the Demo car was on 205/40 R17 tyres, and a bit shorter springs it is still not going to feel the same.

It might actually feel better. and a bit of a nicer ride once it is run in.

Mines got 9000 miles on it now. I definitely wouldnt say it rolls around a stupid amount. I only notice it when im really pushing on, and by that i mean, on the limit of the tyres also. For day to day driving its fine.

I cant really comment on how its changed over those miles, because i drove a 2005 polo with 165 65 r14's on before this, and that did just do some rolling about. So this felt better the moment i first got in it.

Although i am still tempted for some alba 16" wheels, mainly for aesthetics, and the eibach springs because im sure it would give a further still improvement.

Mine felt weird on driving home after picking up brand new, turned out it was down by 1 bar on all tyres when I checked it.

Worth a look see.

Hi,

Got home late last night so other checking the positioning of the bands on the tyres I did not do anything else, so I'll check the tyre pressures tonight. In the meantime, Mrs H had taken it for a 50 mile trip and seems to have settled into it when I asked how she found it so it might just be her adapting to the Fabia after the Octy Estate.

Thanks for all the responses.

Anyway, we need to save the money since this morning I was asked if we could buy a labrador puppy.
