VW Golf GTD (Mk7) -

Featured Replies

Not quite the same in terms of performance, but I would've said the Octy vRS would likely be Skoda's closest!

C'mon guys it's got to be RED! (in yer face). No other colour looks better, lol.

What hatch do skoda do in that class?

Seat do the leon, but the golfs a lot nicer car i think, both interior and exterior.

Just my opinion though :).

Octavia is on same platform but not same class, shame really something like the rapid spaceback vrd would sell well if modernised IMO

Octy isnt a hatch though. Thats why i said it haha.

Yes it is..

Have you had that wrapped or replaced?

Does the boot lift with the glass?

I dint think it did. Never payed too much attention though tbh haha.

On the octy?

Yes, it hinges at the top of the glass.

Yup, all Octavias are hatchbacks. Same chassis/size as a golf, just a longer sloped rear so it has a larger boot really.

Octavia is still a pretty big hatchback in any case.

So how come the colour change Rob?

You didn't write the first one off did you or did it die

a natural death somehow?

I'm sure Skodanorm mentioned last year that there are some that are saloons. Not 100% on that, maybe for the Euro market?

Hummmm, I've never seen one, but the continent does have a taste for smaller saloons so no totally improbable

No proper saloon in the Octavia range, anywhere that I'm aware of.

Would love a GTD! Out of curiousity, what made you go for a GTD rather than an equivalent performance Skoda or Seat?

I do love the GTD. I did look at many different cars prior to getting the Golf including Audi's, BMW, Merc, Skoda and Seats... The GTD was the one that got the highest marks in terms of performance, easy to drive, nice on the eyes and trade in price.

Have you had that wrapped or replaced?

Replaced. The black one is a total loss due to a lorry. Didn't even get over 4,000 miles <- Cheers then!

Blimey Rob, Glad you're okay. Were you in it at the time?

Or was it parked?

I specced up a Golf GTD and it was going to cost around £7k more than the Octy VRS TDi (did get a cracking deal on the VRS tho with 0% and 3 years free servicing and discount).

Octy is a very nice place to sit from the driving position and seats are great. The Golf wasnt worth £7k more IMHO

^^^

True but Octavias depreciate quicker than Golfs so I reckon its

about even in the long run. A pre owned Octavia makes the most

sense cos someone else has already taken the massive hit that you

have to look forward to.

Never been in an octavia tbf, but my dad used to have a 10 plate golf sportline with the 2.0cr140 engine (cant get the 170/185 now in the estate) with dsg.

It was a bloody lovely car. Did everything so well. Id like one one day!

At the £28k list price for it though, it wasnt cheap aha.

Sorry to hear that Rob. What a shame; were you in it at the time?

On finance though, the difference is much closer overall.

Slow Golf depreciation makes the monthly payments much closer than the £7K difference in list price would suggest (probably £30 per month or thereabouts).

I got quotes on a Leon FR 184 5dr with most of the extras and a Golf GTD with a few extras and the difference was £35 per month even though the price difference was nearly £8K. (Leon £254, Golf £289). It stopped me ordering the Leon as it was too close to the Golf.

Without the 0%, the vRS and GTD are probably pretty close on finance.

Now waiting to see how much the soon to be released Golf GTE hybrid will be (though I've been told by DtD that they won't be getting any allocations for at least six months  :( )

I looked into one before going for a 120d instead. Poor discounts and high interest rates made it look uneconomical on pcp compared to the bmw.

List price on both about the same, but VW were wanting 7-8% apr and up to 10% discount (that was brokers with dealers being a bit too cagey), bmw were doing 4.9% apr and 15% discount.

Once I visited bmw I was hypnotised by the dealer treatment and the customer experience and couldn't believe it was all available for less than the price of the VW.

BMW's model range is mind-bogglingly complicated though. I don't know how many versions of diesel 1 series DtD lists, but it's between 100 and 200!!

Have to say I lost the will to live, just trying to choose which 1 series I'd like!

Maybe hypnotism is the only way to buy a BMW. Walk into dealer, get hypnotised, walk out with empty wallet and a shiny new car, repeat every three years

Also, just noticed on DtD that discounts on 120d's and GTD's is the same at 12%. BMW has 4.9% finance vs 7.2% on Golf. Better residuals on the Golf probably make it currently a bit cheaper on PCP, but then again if you hit the options list both get expensive, but there are a lot more options to choose from on the BMW (think the GTD is a bit better equipped as standard).

£7k??? You weren't spec'ing like for like then

On PCP I got a deal very close to that of the octy tbh

Happy motoring Rob hopefully the white one will last longer than the black one.. I've had one now for 10,000 miles... in black, been hit four times, blacks not a good colour imo.. How you getting on with the collision alert thingumy cramps my style a bit, oh and the adaptive cruise control is interesting, especially when demo'ing to a nervous passenger  , close down the distance, dial in 90 parsecs and aim for the nearest lorry,, all in the name of science. :D

I see that the Golf R offers seem to be back - £322 per month (inc VAT) + £1936 deposit, 10K miles / year inc. maintenance over 2 years. (it does say business finance, but I'm sure they'd be available on private contract hire).

That's cheaper than a vRS!!

Yes indeed - God knows what'll happen to the 2nd hand market for those, in 18 months to 2yrs!

Hope you're ok Rob. Bugger that it happened, but as you've got a replacement, I'm hoping it wasn't anything serious for you.
