Coolant level dropping ;-(

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've had my SE for a couple of months now and I've done around 3k miles in it. Just after I got it the coolant light started coming on intermittently,I thought it was the sensor, but I've sinse put 1L of coolant in the car. Are there any common weak spots in the coolant circuit that normally lead to leaks before I go chasing my tail?

Cheers

Mark

P.S under no circumstances can anyone use the words "HEAD GASKET"! Lol

Our SE lost coolant at around 50k miles - needed a new radiator so might be worth checking

I was having the same problem but didn't even have my car for a week. I took it back to the garage I bought it from and they are trying to get to the bottom of it. I should get feedback next week as it's going into main dealer for a diagnostic test. And then they can crack on with whatever is needed to be replaced.

The first thing people say it is, is 'head gasket' but again, they've sent it too a specialist garage that specialise in head gaskets and nothing came of the test.

If I were you I'd get the radiator and water pump checked out mate.

Keep me updated and I'll do the same.

Check where the heater pipes go through the bulkhead, quite a common place for leaks.

HEAD GASKET, HEAD GASKET, HEAD GASKET! More likely to be the radiator though to be honest...

Check the cap on the expansion tank is sealing (o ring), but I reckon radiator based on personal experience. Check the sides for evidence of evaporated coolant, it'll leave a deposit. If not then it's a case of playing follow the pipe work till you find out where its leaking, again it may only do it when up to temp so look for deposits with the engine cold.

Bottom corners of radiator, bulkhead heater pipe connection, head gasket is quite rare.

Bottom corner of my radiator corroded, it would last three days and then need topping up with coolant. Had a new radiator fitted and been OK ever since, more than a year. Maybe a pressure test would help you identify the cause?

Just put a radiator on last weekend as mine had got down to 3 days and it would need topped up. To be fare i should of done it sooner but no harm done (i hope) :P. Was the bottom corner of mine. I was £130 or thereabout from skoda for a radiator

Cheers guys!

That should save me a fair bit of messing around! ;-)

I'll check the radiator first and see what's next!

Much love!
