New and considering Yeti or Roomster, and extras?!

Featured Replies

Thank you for correcting me again. I am unfortunate in not having such an accomodating dealer as you obviously have.

You are obviously more informed than Skoda UK, as they said nothing about extra fans to me.

Re:-

"And can we please stop this continual criticism of Skoda for not providing the "extra" wiring for the fridge and battery. They are not the only company not to include this. Even Land Rover no longer include it. It is NOT a legal requirement and it is only the UK market that insist upon it. Our friends in Europe seem to cope perfectly adequately with out it, and have done for many years."

I welcomed getting my Yeti, but to date I have had poor dealer contact and with one exception, to be polite, poor and fragmented response from Skoda Uk when asked questions

As said I expected to pay extra for the extra wiring that I need.

Why mention Land Rover?

I still stand my ground and expect a UK vehicle to meet UK customer requirements, whether it is something you want or not.

The extra fans were mentioned many months ago, I believe in the first couple of Yeti brochures, and have been mentioned a few times since. To be honest dealers should know about this, and generally the technical side do. The problem comes with dealing with salesmen!

As said that isn't the only thing that matters. There have been lots of reports of dealers not fitting the bumper hatch properly. There is the fact that you are now willing to pay your dealer to strip a lot of the interior trim from your vehicle so they can fit the loom. If that had been fitted in the factory it would have gone in first. Do you trust your dealer to get it all back correctly and with no subsequent rattles?

The extra battery/fridge loom that is available still needs some dismantling, but no-where near as much as you now require, and would have provided you with all you require, and would probably saved you a lot of money.

Why Land Rover? Why not? I could just as easily said VW, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, or Citreon. A manufacturer is only required to provide wiring for the legal necessities, and that is just the lights. It does amaze me that the whole of Europe manages without this extra but some people in the UK cope with out it.

Now I'm even more confused! as the dealer today said that didn't need both bits listed in the catalogue, just the second listed one for it all to be done and ready to use, and the first only if I wanted the electrics in place to add the actual tow bar section at a later date without having to take half the vehicle apart to run the wiring through?!

That is accurate. £450 for a fitted, working, integrated electronically, towing rig is unbeatable value,. people have paid twice that for a variety of lash ups involving butchered looms. Towbar electrics pre-fitting was the only option but has had it's day, Some after market fitting has been satisfactory but never as cheap.

Your dealer sounds thick!

If you order a car from the factory with a fitted tow bar there is nothing to fit. Everything is fitted and programmed at the factory.

If you order "tow bar prep" you get the basic lighting loom fitted through to the rear of the car so you can then plug in the final loom (*) which has the 13 pin socket fitted. You then need to have the car reprogrammed to activate all the elements.

If you order the additional "caravan" loom you get an additional loom from the front to the back that connects with (*) above to give you the battery/fridge element.

well he did spend time with me today making sure the dog crate fitted in fine, so least he's willing if also maybe thick?! :giggle:

So the option that says detachable towbar etc - £450 is all I would need to have it all fitted and ready to tow when picked up on its delivery to dealer? Not the prep and tow bar?! If they only made the info in the catalogue easier to understand!

Perhaps he likes dogs!

Yes, the £450 "factory fitted detachable tow bar" gives everything you need to hook-up immediately, but it will only provide you with the basic lighting electrics, not the fridge element. It will even be programmed correctly!

If you really need the fridge/battery bit then you will need to buy the additional "UK caravan loom" which does need a small amount of dismantling of the interior.

my trailer tent is pre all those fancy electrics, so thankfully the single socket will be enough :)

Thanks Llanigraham :)

Corrected that for you, as some dealers are STILL coding them incorrectly!

Some dealers may certainly be doing this as many of them don't know what the recoding is all about, I speak from experience! Surely though the factory fit should be done correctly?

To add my opinion to the "split charging" saga (not directed at you Gizmo :giggle: ), I had split charging until a fitter missed it out on one vehicle and I never noticed the loss!

I precool my fridge by connecting it to the house mains for 24 hours before each journey.and put freezer blocks in the fridge for the journey. They have NEVER melted en route. Likewise if your battery needs charging en route it's time you replaced it.

FACTORY FIT RULES OK.

Sorry, but I think you will find that if the factory fit the tow bar then they also do the coding and there is nothing for the dealer to do.
