Jabbasport Made My Car Go Faster

Featured Replies

Well, the big day finally came :)

The guys (and gal) at Jabbasport were very friendly and helpful. They were understanding when I turned up late (diversions at the end of the M6, and getting lost in Stamford - b****y Burghleigh signs obscuring the real road signs!).

Mike did the remap exactly as I wanted - fairly conservative, with smooth progressive power delivery. He kept me up to date with progress reports; apparently the car was eager to climb off the rollers :)

The Dyno plot shows 228.8 Cv at 4000 RPM. The auto transmission has distorted the torque figures - the measured peak was 446 Nm at 3000 RPM, just before the transmission changed up a gear.

A review should appear in due course. I'llo post a copy of the Dyno plot when I can scan it in.

The car has been transformed - it was almost like getting a new one! It pulls smoothly throughout the speed range up to, er, let's just say I bottled out before it ran out of steam :D

If the driver of a silver Octavia estate, next to me at the traffic lights near the Euro Hub is reading this:- It was meant to be a normal "brisk" launch. You probably didn't see the startled look on my face as the tyres started squealing and the ASR light started flashing at me

 I hate all these Jabba posts because I have to bloomin wait another 10 months.:D

Mike, you were obviously typing this as I posted my query in the Lounge. Did you get a Bailey DV as well? So we now have another satisfied Jabbasport customer! :D

Yes, I had a Bailey DV fitted (I had pre-ordered one, bit it wasn't necessary as they keep some in stock). It was just as well, because the stock one was knackered (split diaphragm). As a bonus, that nasty "flutter" noise has gone :)

The "incident" at the traffic lights wasn't dangerous - just extremely embarrasing  - I just pressed the accelerator as I would have done for a normal "brisk" launch (i.e. not "street racer"), and was a bit startled by the tyre-squealing take-off. It was so startling that I slowed down almost to walking pace - leaving the Octavia estate to zoom off into the distance (driver no doubt thinking "what a wally!")

Next time just keep your foot buried in the carpet, Mike :D

Congrats on your new car ....

I dread to think how I'll drive with 150HP under my boot - I'm bad enough as it is now! (in a very safe manner as the RS drivers on Saturday pm will vouch for... How fast did I try to make the sliproad corner on to the M4? fast enough.) :D

How fast did I try to make the sliproad corner on to the M4?

Dunno, I was stopped on the hard shoulder on the slip road waiting for you all to catch up :D

So how fast did you think I shot past? I worryingly think it was about 60mph, which was not a wise speed to be taking that corner... I should have remembered all the M4 exits from the roundabouts are tighter than they look, from my time in Swansea! It was still good fun though, I can't deny that!

Congrats on the remap, would be interesting in an automatic to see what that bhp would do.

At least you have an engine 'worth' remapping!

Can't see much gain from getting my little 1.4 petrol engine 'mapped somehow... :D

Mike,

congrats on the remap....I can tell you it's addictive. As stated in another thread I've lost all boost in my car......didn't get my boost fix this morning.....I'm i a bad way.;)

BTW your car has 446Nm!!!! What's this work out in lbs/ft??

Enjoy!

Adrian.

Steve - there's always the de-cat, and a Jabba turbo kit? Nothing's impossible. :D

It is true that I can get the biggest %% increase (50+ possible) - but when you have 180HP as standard I guess a 50% increase would be tough from just a remap. As stated before by others, I've often felt the TDI engines are de-tuned... How else would a 130HP RS fabia engine be fine, given the engine's are essentially the same?

Isn't that to do with the fuel delivery system being "PumpDuse"?

There's a turbo kit for fabias? :D :D :D

Dunno - probably not? It was a good idea though.

As for fuel delivery, I have not got the faintest idea, to be honest... So a remap on my car would make the fuel delivery system faster when I need it, hence going up to 150BHP possible...?

TSR Performance advertise turbo conversions for the 1.4 VAG engines...looking at about

It pumps it at a massively increased pressure

There is indeed mate. TSR in somerset does one. Supposedly gives 160bhp on a standard engine at 0.8bar boost. Jabba seemed to think that vortex do a supercharger kit for it too but not sure of outputs.

Downside to turbo kit is the price.

Damn. Beaten to it by Rob!

Knew I should learn to type a bit quicker! :p

I'd be curious to know how much they would need to change to the rest of the engine when fitting it though...

Rob.

Apparently nothing. I asked them about it at GTi International. They had a Seat Arosa with the kit fitted to it. They said it was great fun to drive and a big improvement over standard. The same kit also fits the 1.6. 8v and 16v. They sold the demo though unfortunately so can't see for myself now.:(

Rob.

PD engines have a separate fuel pump for each injector, instead of a single pump feeding a common rail. It means that the pump design can be optimised (higher pressure etc.).

I suppose it's a bit like having a separate coil pack for each cylinder on a petrol engine, but for a different reason.

Apart from the usual congratulatory activities (cheers, Mike! ) may I join the general amazement?

446 Nm!!!

Are you sure you haven't got a diesel hidden somewhere in there?

Yes, we want that scanned dyno plot! :D
