Thanks Damo,

Is that any age DSG box do you know?

Mark,

I just ordered a Superb CR170 4x4 L&K - paid the deposit yesterday.  I had already got some really competitive quotes from carwow.co.uk, but none of the dealers were that handy to me (where is Ayr?).  I emailed the local dealer that I had previously met some of the written quotes I had received and he bettered them.  Saved 10.02% off list price.  No idea if this is good or not as this is my first new car purchase.

Cheers,

Raymond

On a new Superb 170 4x4 L&K?? That seems like a very good discount to me, as stated Skoda sell enough of these cars to be able to keep prices high, so a 10% off is not to bad at all!

If you walk away from the dealer with the idea you did a good deal, that's just fine. Ofcourse *maybe* you could have gotten more off, but to what price? A bad relationship with the salesman, more stress, etc? You shaved quite a bit off the list price, that's all that matters.

What is the delivery date?

When I bought mine, it was the first time I ever had to queue up and wait to buy a car.

I agree, 10% is a very good discount - was that a straight deal with no trade-in?   You would imagine there should be some a little extra margin in it for a dealer selling an L&K over a more basic model but still there are a lot of dealers who won't move on the price so you did well

As I understand it the dealer places generic orders for stock into the queue. Up until a certain point, as the order is shuffling forward in the queue, they can either amend or cancel or confirm as a customer order. They have altered one of these "placeholder" orders to my spec and it is build week 26 which is end of June for delivery third week of July. As orders ahead of it get cancelled it may shift up the queue as it is now a customer order and not one "for stock".

Hope that makes sense.

As for the discount, I am useless at this kind of thing. All I did was a bit of research and get actual dealer written quotes through carwow before heading into the dealership. When I sat down with the bloke I just said that before he gives me his "best offer" that I would go home and email him through the quotes so that he can see what he can do. I said that I would rather support the local dealer and wasn't concerned if it was a bit more expensive but it had to be ballpark. As it happened he beat the other quotes.

Great group of guys at the dealership and totally not what I was expecting (which was to be thrown to the sharks!).

Cheers,

Raymond

So not only you got a 10% discount but you also get a L&K in 3 months? You can order my car next time. :giggle:

Stay with that dealer. If you ever run into any trouble with them (say a minor warranty issue), gently remind them of your business they got when you bought the car, and of the fact your next car is surely going to be a Skoda too - and their conduct will decide if they get your return business.

If they are worth their salt, they will help you with the minor issue, throw in something extra and smile while they do. Happy customer = happy business!

Cheers mate. I am an absolute amateur at this stuff, so fingers crossed. I'm not getting my hopes up re: delivery date and fully prepared for it to slip. Currently looking at a short term lease on a ford focus to bridge the 3 month gap as about to be car less.

Very Nice Mark

Wouldn't your dad prefer to relive his youth and swap for a Stage 3 VRS? :D

Mine is a 140 4x4 DSG, just Race Chipped it so it's about 180 bhp, so basically like a 170. My economy has improved drastically and the car has more pep. For £100 and the cost of insurance you can drive a DSG 4x4 with all the benefits of the 170. I love it, at 75 mph ( indicated) the MFD is showing around 60 mpg and at last the economy can match ( or beat) my previous Saab diesel auto.

Look at the Fuelly figures they are going to improve.

the funny thing is he's been driving around in my car for the last few weeks. I think he likes the power and handling ;-)

I should have bought that 3.6 v6 superb estate for sale a few weeks ago but missed out on it :-(

Yeah, that was a bargain... (as long as economy isn't a problem obviously)

I would love a drive in one just to see how good they are

I think I could have lived with the mpg but ideally it's time to move to a diesel and then look around for a decent 7 seater for 8-10k for the general run a about.

I'm not doing many miles in my car (2-3k a year) and I use the van every day but it might start to increase again so im trying to future proof the next change as much as possible.
