engine cut out facility in stop/start traffic not functioning

Featured Replies

Currently using Octavia  while my suberb is being fixed.

Initialy I noticed that in stop/start traffic the engine would shut down when stationary. Restart by depressing the clutch.

Presumably this is a fuel saving  measure.

This facility has now stopped functioning.

As it's a hire car I have no manual to reset.

Views.....

It's a hire car so don't worry about it?....

Petrol or diesel? It could be regenerating the DPF if the latter, so wouldn't stop/start - it shows a symbol top right of the maxidot to say it's disabled.

If it's petrol, I have no idea, but if it turns out to be a fault please ask the dealer the cause so I can have the fault applied to my car :)

Views.....are you using the Air Con ...?? Stop / start won't work if air con on..!! It needs the engine to run for the fan to work..

Stop/start does work with the aircon on, the aircon doesn't work when the engine is stopped that's all. I never turn my AC off and my stop/start works fine.

As above! I find my start stop works after around 5 min, I think it's to do with the charge/power system that runs it?

I find that if my aircon is on the coldest setting start/stop doesn't work, but adjust the temp by 1 or 2 degrees then it works.

Stop/Start is disabled/enabled based on the difference between the desired temperature & the cabin temperature.

On a warm morning here, Stop/Start will activate at the first traffic lights I come to (maybe 750m from my garage).

The same journey, this morning where the outside temperature was much colder (~4°C) & Stop/Start  is not allowed due to "Climate Request".

I believe outside temperature is also used as another Enable/Disable condition.

There is a full list of Stop/Start activation conditions in the owners handbook.

thanks for the interest peeps.

Car gone back as I've got my superb back now.

Think i may have the a/c on.

There are loads of conditions when the stop start will not work - have a look in the owners manual (use the link on the contents page for this forum). I notice that it doesn't work if the air con fan is running at a high speed - over setting no 4 - whether the air con is on or not. I was going to copy and paste from the manual but there is too much info but here is the link, it is on page 141

For me the start/stop works even with aircon on but the a/c stops functioning. The air that comes in is warmer and warmer. If I'm stopped for more than 20-30 seconds I feel there's no aircon. And also the fan is moved to the lower setting, one bar litten. After the engine is restarted the aircon come back on and the fan is set to the original power setting.

So many inhibitors. It's just like the BMW system: Most power consumers are able to 'inhibit'. For example, having the A/C, rear screen demister and radio on will in most cases inhibit the system; If the engine isn't up to running temperature or the outside temperature is lower than 3 degrees Celsius; If the battery charge level is lower than 83% (Most cars will start fine down to about 32% charge)

Not sure that paragraph is grammatically correct but you get the point.
