Can of worms ? Which wax ?

Featured Replies

Ok so thanks to all of you, I now have a nice collection of cleaning gear.

I wanted to get some wax for the next re-application, and am snowed under with stuff that appears to be good.

I would like something that is easy to apply, wont hurt/stain any rubbers/plastics it gets on and is long lasting.

I have tried a few products over the last few years, and to give you an idea of my requirements I'll list what I thought of them ...

Autoglym SRP ... well ok not a wax as such but:  decent longevity but a pain if overrun onto plastics etc, and dusty once buffed.

Meguirs NXT: easy on/off, great results, but not very long lasting.

Colinite 476: bit of an effort on/off, and didn't seem to last well. as contrary to most peoples thought's, I might not have done it correctly ?

Armour All shield wax: very easy on/off but results no better than OK I thought.

I will of course top whatever with the Sonax BSD.

I was thinking of Poorboys Natty blue paste ?

Also what do people think of Chemical Guys wheel guard for the alloys ?

I like Nattys blue, it makes the job of waxing a reasonably pleasant task

as it smells nice and goes on and off quickly and easily.

Durability isn't so muchof an issue with a wax you don't mind topping

up due to ease of application.

I've used a whole tub of the stuff.

Any wax will do TBH...purely because youre going to top it with Sonax BSD

Nattys Blue is very easy on and off

Vics Concours the same

Many many waxes ....many many prices ....but a good sealer and well prepared paintwork will be better with the BSD

I have been using `CG Wheel Guard` for almost 2 years now (still on the same tin!) and find it very successful...though a bit of a pain to apply and remove.

Regarding wheel sealant....

.....I use ceramic sealer but a quick spray with BSD will suffice

Ok go easy, bit new to all this,as it seems to more a sealer than a detailer how does Sonax BSD affect re applying a wax does it have to be stripped?.

Input appreciated guys, though I still have a hankering, is this the start of "sparkly's syndrome" ?  ... now thinking a tub of CG Petes 53 would be a nice investment ....

Colour is Race blue if that makes any odds  ;)

Colour is irrelevant .....CG Petes gets good write ups

Very little...but It would only need doing when it begins to fail...tested by the beading becoming wider and flatter

Oh No, not a Wax thread

Please, Please, Please dont tell Sparkly

Car usually gets washed every couple of weeks as its black  ,am using autoglym rapid detailer as a dying aid was thinking of trying the sonax but have seen its not suited for this so would i still use a detailer as a drying aid if sonax was applied.

Think i'm on a slippery slope lol used to have 2 buckets,2 sponges,a chamois & a bottle of colour magic now got mitts, applicators, wax, polish & a host of other bits & can't pass a micro fibre cloth without feeling the quality.

Done ! one tub of Petes 53, a roll of detailing masking tape to be safe, and yet another MF drying towel ordered.

Must resist further temptation !

Tell her there good for dusting

If i did that i'd be doing the dusting lol.

Tell her, do not be afraid

That's easy for you to say.

I've an Idea, PM me your mobile I'll tell her

Second thoughts Better not

Tell her there good for dusting

She has her own set for that reason. Came home one day to see her using my drying towel to clean the kitchen cupboard glass. She just gets annoyed when I go tesco for milk and come back with no milk and a bag full of microfibre! Luckily for me, she cleans house. I clean car :D

Hello, Chris.

I don't really understand how a `spray` can be used as a wheel sealant (especially BSD as it comes out as a jet rather than a spray). Surely it will end up on the tyres, brake disc etc?

I'm coming to the end of my current sealer (CG Wheel Guard) which, as you will know is a paste and is rather tiresome to apply and remove, so I'd be delighted to use something easier like a spray but am worried about the above.

Regards

Mike.

Not sure how Chris applies it; but for sure BSD on the alloys is a great result.

I spray BSD onto a damp microfibre and wipe down the alloys/spokes after every wash.

Protection is great and lack of brake dust is very noticeable for days thereafter - so easy to rinse off too!

Back to the point, on wax decisions..... so many to choose from....

From experience - i follow BTS22's comment above - normally using Finishkare FK1000P on fresh paint as a good sealant.

Great protection and great price.

Thereafter - choose any wax of choice and enjoy...

Personal favourites at the moment R222 Concours and Britemax Vantage are both great and easy to use.

I have got some Raceglaze 55 to trial out sometime over the summer.... we shall see how that performs.

Sorry Mike...should have said....Spray on a cloth or pad then wipe the alloys
