Greenline so far

From a shortish distance and facing the rear, someone commented today..."you bought a new Merc then?" :o   :D

Still luvin' it though, albeit, I am finding the sat nav a bit of a handful to understand and operate.

That'll be me though, not the unit.

Must have accidentally zoomed out on the piccy, and couldn't understand why Warsaw was showing on the map.

Youngest sorted it for me.

I do tend to have this habit of, if in doubt, just randomly press any button.

  • The Greenline is a fabulous car. The economy is beyond belief and the engine surprisingly perky. I love mine.

  • You may be surprised, I compare my calculated mpg with maxi-dot and throughout the winter the maxi-dot was pessimistic not optimistic. My latest fill up was, actual 60.8mpg, maxi-dot 59.9mpg.    I a

I've had a greenline elegance estate here for 4,000 miles now (8,000 on it when I bought it).  Mixture of motorway & a roads mostly - more commuting of late too - 'real' MPG average is 63.  Thrill

Just discovered during a 'cloud burst', that the rear wiper is obviously linked to the front ones somehow, or has it got it's own sensor?.

Most excellent idea anyway. :sun:

I wasn't that keen on it, mostly because it seemed to wipe too frequently which I think suggests its driven by the front sensor. Deactivated mine in the maxidot settings.

Only noticed this tonight whilst it was still relatively light .

The dashboard instrument cluster lighting was fading and going brighter again randomly whilst the lights were turned off.

Is this normal?

I assume you weren't doing anything with the adjuster for the dash lights (located beside the headlight switch)?  It doesn't sound normal to me.  Any other strange electrical/current issues that you can see or something that may be drawing current from the battery?

No and no.

Are the cluster lights supposed to remain on a constant brightness level during daylight with the lights fully switched off then?

I thought p'raps it was a clever device depending on the brightness inside the car.

The speedo and rev counter needles remained bright however.

I'll check it out again tomorrow daytime.

Normal and constant brightness when the lights are on.

Quite normal and how it is designed to work. As the instruments are deep set it automatically adjusts the central instrument cluster brightness according to the ambient light. My past three VW group cars since 2005 have had this feature, as does my current 2013 Superb.

Do there we are then ey?

Bet there's no mention or that in the handbook though...he sez, scurrying off to confirm this.

Well I've learnt something new, I have to say I've never noticed that before and I've been driving Skodas for a while.  It must be quite a subtle difference in light or else my eyes need testing

There is nothing in the manual about it - it just does it. Can't say I've ever noticed it but then again I tend to keep my eyes on the road most of the time!!!

This was most pronounced last night.

Couldn't miss it even out of the corner of my eye.

The light emitted was sort of 'throbbing' as I went in and out of the trees, from full glow to total blackness and back again, several times

Just as a footnote,

I somehow seemingly managed to activate the speed warning function.......probably due to pressing buttons in frustration whilst fiddlin' with something else....to a very random 37 mph.

It was when this flashed up on the display last night that I coincidentally and initially first noticed this display lighting changing.

Just thought I'd mention it, but probably just a mere coincidence

Going into the dealer tomorrow to have these horrible totally ineffective confusing swiveling winking fog lights de-activated. :sun:

Q Silver!!  :D

You can argue until the cows come home, but now I've had chance to (just about) see what they do, MY conclusion is that they are a total waste of time and look ridiculous anyway.

Just MY OPINION of course, and each to their own.

Feel absolutely free to have a go at me though, i REALLY don't mind.  :p

Meanwhile, 900 miles on and I'm still lovin' it.

What an absolute beaut, and DARE I say it with all these DSG horror stories raging around, but this new 6 speed MANUAL box they're fitting in the Greenline now is an absolute effortless peach, slick and smooth.

Well Mr Silver is going to pleased....for now

Main Stealer claims after checking, that the useless gormless confusing embarrassing winking foglights CANNOT be turned off as far as they're concerned, but they are going to check with tech services on Monday.

Claims that I read in here that they CAN, were dismissed.

The puter sez NO.

Black tape now beckons to cover these horrible things up.  :wall:

Wasted journey, and stuck in miles of gridlocked traffic on the Runcorn / Widnes bridge and M56.

All in all, a miserable bunny today.

The service manager muttered something about messing 'the brain' up if they messed too much with it.  :notme:

Meanwhile, for the DSG owners, they've had very few complaints in there, apart from some taxi drivers.

Encouraging ey?

Shouldn't have to really though Toxi, should I?

We're talking MAIN dealers here, and I was under the impression that MAIN dealers were/are THE experts, seeing as they've got all the necessary gear and know how.

They are adamant that this CANNOT be done.

Barking mad anyway imo, as I can turn the DRL's off via maxidot!

Barking mad anyway imo, as I can turn the DRL's off via maxidot!

Ahh right I see why! Their software dose not allow them functions such as that! It would have to be a version of VCDS rather than dealer software which is limited in adaptions!

Oh no sorry it's just a lot harder for them to change than on VCDS I didn't read to the end of a thread before posting!
