Changning Yeti wiper blades - main dealer pricing 4x cost of OEM blades

Featured Replies

After a sensor replacement at Platinum Skoda in Bath my Yeti has come back with a list of other things that need doing. Second on the list was to replace the wiper blades at a cost of £75.

I checked online and found a pair at Wiperblades.co.uk for £18.26, including VAT and postage. I have no commercial connection with the firm. These blades were the most expensive they had in stock. They are direct OEM replacement parts, identical to the originals, made by the same company that supplied the originals - Valeo. Bosch blades (hardly a discount brand) would have been a couple of quid cheaper but had a slightly different universal fitting and I didn't want to waste time figuring out how to use that.

The total time needed to change these wipers is under one minute. For each one, you press the button in the middle, pull out the lever, push in the new lever and its button clicks into place.

I expect main dealers to charge a premium, but even if you assume they pay as much for the wiper blades as I did (which is unlikely), that's a labour charge of around £57 per minute. This is main dealer rip-off pricing at its worst.

Yup, this specific ones been mentioned a few times now. Big cost difference as you've found! :)

A quick email to Skoda UK and the dealer to let them know they are taking the p**s always makes me feel a little better.

I had a blade split up in Norfolk local Skoda Dealer said,

not in stock, go to Halfords set 128 under £20
