Best visual or any other top theft deterrent......

....for my old Moggy.

After reading that article yesterday about even modern cars having their electronic disablement's easily over ridden, I suppose this applies to ALL cars now actually, not just the older stuff.

I was going to get another Disklok, but 1, the price of the largest one that is required is very high, and 2 I've just read a review on the Halfords site regarding a bloke that lost his keys, and managed to overcome it with a screw driver and a pair of pliers!!  :o

I appreciate that if they REALLY want it, they'll have it, so what's best to put off these vile thieving  reptiles in the opinions of users of said and such visual items?

Miss R is home and re-commencing her summer job in just 3 weeks time, and I don't want her ringing to tell me there's an empty space where Moggsy used to be. :@

  • More info on Moggy required.    I had this a few years ago...     I'd go for a full steering wheel cover (Disklok) in the correct size to make life awkward for a thief.

Ooh a traveller? Or just the standard moggy? :D

I just use a stoplock a gear stick handbrake lock sometimes and I've got a discarnect kind of thing which is quite good but if the thief is well equipped they carry another one!

Visible and signed CCTV covering the area will deter....it's not something they can easily bypass.

A good Stout Drive Post... And a wheel clamp.

My steering wheel is fitted with a snap off boss so that it can be removed, certianly helps me slep better at night when im through at the girlfriends as she stays in cpatbridge(****ehole)....well that and the fact it has theeee most oversensative alarm :)

My E30 has a period alarm - I don't recommend it!

Something like a hidden kill switch would be a simple/cheap way of stopping them driving it away. Noting to help with them towing it or whatever though.

Edit - althogh that's not visual!

.

My mates thought about this in his car.

A hidden switch that kills the fuel pump.

Aslong as it baffles the thieves long enough for him to wake up properly and grab a something heavy, i dont see why it wouldnt work haha.

If they just smash the window, let the handbrake off and winch it onto a trailer it'll do no good. Better than nothing though - something I intend to fit to my E30 one the rust is done.

Only if theyre equpped with a trailer.

If they planned on breaking into the house, getting the keys and driving off. The chances are they didnt bring a trailer.

Agreed, but I'd guess something like a Moggy Minor is a more specialist theft than a joyrider after a 206 so they might be prepared.

Or they'll expect it to break down!

I remember reading in the Minor Matters (Minor owners club mag) a bloke left his outside just locked and someone used to use it in the evenings and park it back in same place he only realised when mileage had gone up rapidly!

Is that true?

Is this a recent edition, as I have a few dating back to Feb last year.

Ours is a standard 2 door saloon btw...not concourse but still very nice for a 53 year old, and it's an absolute Beaut to drive.

Absolutely love it.

So many have been nicked though, never to be seen again, including the tragic story of an old guy from Manchester last year that garaged his with security attachments, and some vile disgusting filthy low life scumbags still had it away whilst he was visiting his very ill wife in hospital.

He was heartbroken as he'd had it for decades and showered it with much love and affection.

Very nice! I've got a soft spot for them after having ones in the family for years but sadly none mor recently. No this was years and years ago when I was helping my Grandfather move house will see if it's still floating about at some stage!

Everyone loves Moggie's.

Miss R had reservations initially, but she's recently told me that she can't see herself ever wanting to part with it now.

The attention she receives whilst driving and parking it is almost embarrassing apparently....mainly from people of my generation I hasten to add.  :D

Going to get a hidden cut off device fitted professionally  within the next fortnight for starters.

Got ones like these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_795147_langId_-1_categoryId_255205#tab3 fitted to my Dad's MGB and Stag, they do the job well however if the thieves know what the car they want is then they will likely have their own knob to start the car so we also have a couple of stoploks fitted just for deterrent purposes!

I'll most certainly check that out.

The more deterrents and inconvenience the better really I suppose.

I like the idea of the steering wheel removal, but I really cannot see Miss R carrying into work with her, plus it's got a center horn push anyway.

Also I forgot to say the old trick of removing the rotor arm if it's not an electronic ignition system!

Can't imagine her ladyship wanting to fiddle around doing that, but a good one for when she's not here and the car is lying idle locked behind the back gate with three cars in front of it.

Getting a Disklok for the Fabia anyway after reading all the trauma that Ryan has had to go through.

In fact, thinking about it, the one on the Fiesta will probably fit once I've sold it.

Yeah it made me decide to fit myself an alarm and a tracker too might buy another stop lock too as the previous two are useless if they get the keys to the car!

Good point well made.

Tracker is an excellent idea, and there's some diy ones out there too now iirc to keep the costs down.

Don't know much about them mind.

My Fabia has an alarm factory fitted.

Hasn't yours?

Nope it's a Clio I've got between Skoda's at the moment with no alarm! Nor did my 53 plate 1.2 classic though. Also with the disklock obviously if it's on the car key ring it's not really huge protection as everyone has seen with Ryan's troubles!

Absolutely, and you ain't realistically going to have the key anywhere else.

Food for thought indeed.

Completely mis-read your car description btw. Initially only saw the words Skoda and 1.2 for some odd reason . :wall:

Gearbox locking pin?

They do them and it locks the shifter in/out of a gear and so they can't do anything.
