Best visual or any other top theft deterrent......

Featured Replies

Richard what a stunner! You in to classic cars I assume?

Occasionally, but not at the moment.

I was sampling various things at the time.

Sold the Moggy for a 1934 Morris 10-4 which looked nicer but was ultimately a bad move as it was less usuable, slower and more expensive to repair.

Still wouldn't mind having a nice Morris Saloon.

Not a fan of the popular Traveller as much as it looks like two cars glued together IMO.

Lack of space.

Would like to see what Mr Ree has bought though.

  • More info on Moggy required.    I had this a few years ago...     I'd go for a full steering wheel cover (Disklok) in the correct size to make life awkward for a thief.

Yeah I'd be interested to see too!

I've always loved the classics grew up around Moggies then my Dad purchased a 71 MGB which I polish and work on, just returned from going out for a spin in it and I've got a 74 Stag as a project of mine! Referring back to the OP you want to focus on kill switches as well as a visual deterrent such as the disklock!

Not a lot of use to your security but a few years ago my brother in law bought a Morris Traveler from the local auction, found it had belonged to a wet fish monger and smelled to the heavens, he used to leave the windows open day and night but no one would steal it and the smell never went away, during hot weather you couldn't see the car for flies

Best regards to all,

(Well, I was doing some wiring but no thief would've gotten away with the car :D )

I also have a fuel pump cut off and and take the rotor arm out if its left for more than one night (as well as a couple other things - won't go into detail on the web). I'll be fitting a master cut off switch in addition to those on the one I'm restoring ATM.

I also tend to leave it unlocked (with nothing valuable inside obviously) so the theives won't damage the car before they realise it won't actually go anywhere and leave it :)

Gone right over my head that has....wooooooosh>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sootie remembers when god was a boy... :p

Same colour as ours that!

The best.

2 or 4 door Foxy?

Gorgeous car and so distinctive and unique, both in looks and sound.

That Moggy 'rasp' is just SSSSO cool, and beats yer poxy dump woosh valves all day long.

I'll have to load some piccies up and then try and fathom out how to load them on here.

I may be some time.

What's an 'OBD' port btw, and can I get one fitted p'raps, as I like the sound of that simple but probably effective tracker?

It's been converted to run on a alternator if that helps?

Have you seen the van values btw Foxy!!!  :o

Nope an OBD port is a on board diagnostic system for retrieving vehicle data and diagnostic codes using software such as VCDS this is only available as standard on more modern cars with data logging ecu systems! The MM doesn't have one and couldn't have one retrofitted!

It was the initials that stumped me.

Meanwhile, the old gerl is going into Manchester next week to have the more modern and much more efficient Lucas heater fitted and I'll be picking up a couple of inertia reel seat belts to replace the statics (why bother for the sake of a few quid ey), 4 new over rider blades as the ones on it are a bit pitted, and a couple of new indicator lenses to replace the cloudy ones.

Door bottoms are a bit blistery but will have to wait until the Autumn to be replaced.

You'll have to start up a project thread on this!

Of course, the absolute beauty of most classics, including this one, is that they are currently going UP in value, not down.

I got this one relatively cheap, and yes it's not mint as I specifically wanted one to be used, not to be stored in a plastic bubble, and the seats need the covers replacing now unfortunately (real leather btw not vinyl), but the more I'm gradually doing to it, the more its value is going up....and it's GREAT fun too.

Haven't/didn't buy it to make money though anyway.

Just need to keep the thieving reptiles claws off it, hence this thread.

Think I'll follow Foxy's advice, and bite the bullet by ordering the large size Disklok from Halfords for starters.

No one seems to be any cheaper, but I'll have a sniff on flea bay for a 2nd hand one p'raps.

I'm not sure if this makes any sense to you but when I'm driving to work in my Clio I tend to be going that bit faster and having more tension I suppose it could be described as but when I drove an old Moggy I had no sense of urgency and find it very relaxed. I was just quite happy to carry on along at a lower speed than I'd normally be doing!

Make sure it has 2 keys etc probably better to go Halfrauds

You're dead right and bang on the money there Toxi.

Therapeutic even, and other drivers treat you almost like Royalty with no aggression shown whatsoever, ever!

In fact, some sheeple even smile and wave!

35--40 mpg ain't too bad either for an old timer.

Well over a ton they are.

Just going into the flea pit now to have a sniff though.

Tell you summat too Toxi, it keeps up with everything else around town.

Quite a sprightly old bird she is with the 1098 engine throbbing away under the automatic  self supporting bonnet.

Not sure what you think of this one! http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.2_2004/p/car-accessories/car-safety-and-car-security/security-locks/steering-lock/?549775861&0&cc5_137

However with the disklock you can class it as a cat 3 security device on insurance if it's on when car isn't in use always. Also if you are ever looking for good cheap insurance try Peter S Taylor!

Although this was on halfords for proper disklok nuzytybe.jpg

No sizes given.

Looks very similar, but wonder how it stands up to a 'thug' test?

No reviews and it looks almost suspiciously cheap by comparison.

Worthy of closer investigation though.

Just the look of it might put off a random scumbag.

Yea, I saw that review and mentioned earlier in the thread. Only just noticed that it took him 25 minutes though, and probably making a racket too.

He says "not unstoppable", but what actually is?

Found some review on Amazon, all pretty good actually, UNFORTUNATELY.....................It will fit most cars and vans with a steering wheel with a diameter of up to 39cm (15¼") Comes with high security keys and storage bag.

Moggsie's wheel is 42" diameter.  :wall:

E bay beckons for 2H Disklok again

It's the one on the right apparently. So, what's the one on the left with no name on it with two keys sitting on it all about ey?

Warrington isn't too far away.

Some in there are being advertised for £500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
