Who bought their car brand new and still has it?

Featured Replies

I bought my Octavia brand new on 1st June 2005, I have owned it ever since and I got to wondering how many other members on Briskoda still have the Mk1 they bought new. It was my intention from day 1 to keep the car, I'd always liked them from when they first came out. It's been by far the best car I've ever owned and still manages to amaze me with it's reliability and running costs, I still do over 400 miles a week in it traveling to work.

Me..... Picked him up oct 1st 2005

Still here 17.5k later :D

Is that 17,500 miles in 9 years? That's pretty good going! :)

Not new but bought mine at a year old in 2003 and still got it now, been through plenty of changes and spent a lot on modification lol

Still have mine and wondered the same thing of late too. Coming up to nine years and 68,000 miles, collected September 2005.

Do you mean literally - as I took it to New Zealand?

It was a cunning play on words, sort of.

Wow, there are some serious low milers out there. Mine is about to pass 90,000 miles and another service.

Yep - The Fabia Estate was bought new by us just after they came out in March 2001 (at the time the roof rails weren't 'approved' so it is one of the only Comfort Estates without them).  Still with us 13 years and 136,000 odd miles later!

I bought my SLX hatch in March 1999.

I'm on my fourth MK1 (also has two MK1 Fab VRS) but this one has been with me since 01/07/2004 and is a daily driver with 214000+ miles. Rebuilt and reengined last year. I won't part with it!

Not brand new, no.

However, I bought my '51 plate back in 2009, and incredibly it was meant to be a cheap-ish stop-gap type thing for me, having been hit hard by the recession and losing lots - including having to sell my beloved 911.

I had £2,500 left over from the sale of the Porsche, after I had paid the finance off, and I bought mine for that same figure, thinking it would fit the bill and give me a fun, reliable, versatile daily driver.

Fast forward 5 years, and with nearly 140k on the clock, I am panicking about what will happen when she's at a point where she is just too old and knackered to use as a viable, reliable car! I cannot tell you how much I love my little VRs, she has been absolutely amazing and brilliant in every way.

She's been the cheapest and oldest car I have ever bought, but somehow the best car I have ever owned by miles.

I have been happy to see that, looking around on the Autotrader and Pistonheads, that there are still a handful of decent low-milers popping up for sale now and again. I will basically look to buy another Mk.1 with low miles at some point in the future.

I basically cannot see me owning anything else as my daily drive for the forseeable future!

Bought mine new in 2005.

Converted to LPG in 2010.

Just about to hit 110,000.

The Comfort never had roof rails as standard, this was solely for the Elegance model, some had them factory ordered or dealer fitted though.

I'd love to get a Fabia to use as my daily commuter, just to take the strain off my Octavia. She seems to be developing a lot of noises, or am I listening too much on the quiet bit of road?? 214000 miles that's some going.

I feel like a traitor to my vRS as I had to sell it about two years ago.  Just as Tweect2 intends to keep his, I too was going to look after mine for as long as humanly possible.  After nearly seven years of ownership we had our third child and unfortunately the vRS had to go due to lack of space on the rear seat.  I'd had that car from new and collected it with only 7 miles on the clock and to say I was upset to get rid is an understatement.  In fact, two years down the line I am still pretty cut up about it.

It was a totally reliable and trustworthy companion and never once let us down.  It got us home in all sorts of weather, including deep snow, floods and hurricane strength winds.  It felt like I'd betrayed a family member the day I left it on the forecourt of the dealership when I drove off in the Honda FRV that replaced it.  It's daft to have such strong emotions about a car but the Octavia vRS is one of the few cars that I can say I became attached to.  I've no idea of where it is now but if any of you know where YG06 UOH is currently then give me a shout as I'd still like to keep tabs on how it's doing.

To those of you that still have your Octavias, keep hold of them as there's nothing else quite like them out there.

I am sure it didn't let you down with only 7 miles on the clock!!  :bandit:
