Your servicing is 10,000 OR 1 year.

If it does 10k in under a year is has a lube service and doesnt need to come back in for another 10,000 miles or a year. The idea being in less than a year you should be back for a 20k service which is larger.

So, take for example, I do 850 miles per month, the lube service (10,000 miles) would then occur in Month 11 and the ANNUAL (20,000 miles) would occur in Month 23, therefore an ANNUAL would be required every 23 months (2 Years)? Have I understood this correctly?

Do they change the pollen filter at 10k if your air con reeks???

No you wouldnt require an annual you are doing more than 10k per year.

You would have

10k (lube)

20k (inspection)

30k (lube)

40k (full service)

Just normal 10k servicing. Annuals are only for cars doing LESS than 10k a year.

Lummox - your argument is incorrect. Skoda say that the first annual inspection HAS to occur at 12 months. Aixlad - you are correct in what you're stating. Servicing of cars doing between 10' date='000 and 20,000 miles a year is a very confused issue so I can understand if it's been misinterpreted.[/color']

I also had a 10,000 Inspection service carried out early - at 8 months in my case because otherwise I would have had to have the Annual Inspection carried out only 4 months later.

My advice to anyone contemplating a second-hand Fabia is to check out the service history very carefully and potentially reject anything serviced as Lummox suggests UNLESS it's done at least 20,000 miles a year - otherwise you risk a dealer rejecting warrantee claims...

There does seem to be an issue here which keeps cropping up.

I would suggest that anyone who is confused about this contact their dealer directly or Skoda UK.

Lummox does the servicing for a living and has been doing so for some considerable time, I'd suggest that he does know what he's talking about and he follows the routines applied by the dealer he works for - a Skoda main dealer.

All advice posted here is purely that, unvarified advice. If you have an issue which you are completely unsure of you must contact your dealer and check their position.

My first Skoda was a Felicia diesel, which needed oil changes every 5,000 miles. As a result, I have come to regard oil changes as something totally different than servicing. So, on my Fabia vRS;-

Fabia oil won't last much more than 10,000 miles, so it must be changed at least every 10,000 miles. Some people change it more frequently than that. Since I use biodiesel, the fuel filter is drained at the same time. Full stop. End of paragraph. New idea:

The car needs servicing at least every 12 months. Traditionally, there has been an oil change at the same time, but you could ask for this not to be done if the oil is only (say) 2K miles old. Servicing should check all the slow-wearing consumable parts, like brake pads. This is labour intensive and thus more expensive than an oil change. If the slow-wearing parts are OK there is no parts component to the bill, but the checks still have to be done.

The servicing regime may be simpler to comprehend if you keep the oil changes seperate from the annual services.

My advice would be to reject the above statements altogether. How can you sit there and say Lummox is wrong when he services Skoda cars as per Skoda's policy EVERY WORKING DAY OF HIS LIFE??????................:confused: :mad:

I am sure my handbook says 10,000 miles OR 12 months depending on which comes first.

The car needs an annual check regardless of mileage or if its previously had a lube service, so says Skoda UK and three dealers I spoke to. I have just dropped my car off for an annual check at 10k miles having done this in 7 months. I could have had a oil change and then had the annual check without an oil change later if I wanted, but my mileage will only be 12k pa from now on, so I have chosen to have the annual check done early. For any of the annual checks you don't need to have the oil change done (provided the oil change was done every 10k), but you do still need to have the check completed.

My understanding, going from my service book, was that you need an inspection service every 20k miles or annually (whichever is soonest). I was lucky in that I was covering over 20k a year, but dealers did try and charge me for an annual service each time I booked it in (

If you have had the annual service done having reached 10k, and you only do another 6k over the next year, then your next service will be due 12 months from now.

My car had the 10k service done at 7,500 when I bought it 2nd hand from the dealer.

In 5-6 weeks it will be a year since I got it. And I will be around 16k. So I'm assuming I'll need an ANNUAL service. But I don't expect to need a 20k service 1,700 miles later at 17,500.

So if I suddenly drove everywhere more and got to 17,500 in 2 weeks, I would expect to wait for the ANNUAL inspection, rather than just have a 20k service?

Otherwise, surely I'd just book it in for a 20k service early as thats cheaper than an ANNUAL inspection? - (unless of course as said earlier I would need an annual inspection as well once it's got to a year)

The 20k includes an annual inspection, I believe, as the inspection service is required every 20k or annually, whichever is sooner! :D

Say I bought a vRS new, I'm old and dont drive much, so I do 6k in my first year. I have to book an Annual Inspection and pay MORE than a 10k service, even though I'm doing less miles and therefore won't really need my brakes etc. checking as much as someone who does 30k a year. (who I assume has 3 lube services in that time).

But we both would have to pay for an annual service at 12 months, yes? (so he would have 2 lube services and an annual one, right?) Then at 24 months I've done 12k so I pay for a 10k lube between my 2 annual services, and my 30k a year friend pays for 2 lube services before his 2nd annual inspection at 24months?

Is that anywhere near close?

My understanding from the service schedule is:

- You must have an annual inspection service

- The car must be serviced every 10k or annually whichever is the sooner

- If the car covers 20k in a year, you only need one inspection service (done at 20k) and the other can be a lube service (done at 10k).

So, if you weren't doing 20k a year, I read into that that you would want to have the annual inspection service done at 10k. You then either have 20k miles or a year from that service before the next inspection service is due....

This makes the most sense to me, so I hope it's right.

Annual service is a year from the last (annual) service, and any interim services are 10k from the last (any) service.

???? I'm giving up now. Gonna take the car to Skoda and say 'do what you will'...
