1.9 TDi PD100 what can be done?

Featured Replies

thinking about changing to a 1.9 TDi and was wondering what can be done to give it a bit more oomph? and what returns you have got from mods like bhp etc. ?

Jabba remap alone will take the standard PD100 to 145bhp. :)

With what I said in the PM, you'd be looking around 150

how much would the jabba remap cost?

For a PD engine, a standard off-the-shelf remap is

Remember that Jabba's rollers overread so probably closer to 130bhp ;)

I ran a 30 quid tuning box off eBay on my PD100 (can be DIY'ed cheaper) which made a big difference to performance without creating lots of smog (sailed through MOT emissions). Claimed figures were a 20-25% improvement, but I only have the "***-dyno" confirmation rather than any real figures .... a guy at work with an Ibiza (FR?) with the PD130 engine was most surprised I could match his pace around the local country roads :D

I also had a Green panel filter on mine, but noticed no change in performance, power or economy when I switched this back to a paper one, so I personally wouldn't bother buying one ;):peepwall:

One thing which also made a big difference to overall performance was a set of Eibach springs and dampers. They didn't make the ride any more harsh, but they did stiffen it up a bit around corners. :D

Could always try and put a PD130 engine in it eh Jason.

I have posted the info on how to make a tuning box - do a search.

Yeah I hear it's just a straight swap ;)

Hi,

I have a pd100 engine with lots of modifications.

The modifications were made at Allards who race a golf tdi mk 4 so have a vast amount of 1.9 tdi experience.

Phase 1 mods include front mounted intercooler and remap. This did cost around

Very interesting info in your post... Allards.. hmm... wish we had a company like that in the Netherlands. Quite amazing that you still have your original clutch and gearbox!!!

The FMIC job, is that easy to DIY? Does it require major modifications or is it quite a straightforward job?

I have the same FMIC and it did need some angle grinding in places to get to fit where its supposed to. I have uprated the clutch though, just in case. :)

I would stick in a tuning box then spend the change on some decent wheels and tints.

My PD100 is sooo easy to drive at silly speeds, came back from darkest Lancashire at the weekend sitting in lane 3 just feathering the throttle and keeping an eye on the mpg readout to eek out the diesel ... the readout said my average speed was 82mph :)

Fantastic car, wouldn't change it for anything.

Hi,

Re FMIC fitting if you go to the forge site they have posted fitting step-by-step instructions. I guess the Allard product would come with instructions too.

Best wishes

John
