Microphone Level

Featured Replies

I have just recieved my new L&K Superb Estate which I am absolutely loving, as it surpasses in virtually every department the Merc E Class I had previously but it in only one area is the E Class better.......The volume of the microphone when making phone calls.

As I use the Superb as a business tool I have to make & receive a lot of calls whilst in the car but after numerous people telling me that they can hardly hear me I am a bit worried about how well this car is going to work out.

So does anybody know i there is anyway to increase the microphone volume in the car with my Samsung Galaxy s4?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The mic is located in the lighting unit (with the reading lights and LEDs) attached to the headlining.  Is there anything blocking this area?  Don't think the volume can be adjusted with maxidot etc but possibly with VCDS alright or ask the dealer.  I agree the mic is not the best I've come across.

Your comments vis-a-vis the e-class are interesting, glad you're enjoying your new Superb!

No nothing blocking the tiny mic openings, I asked the guys in the local dealership who played around with the main controls but couldn't find anything to change so unfortunately no improvement.

What's VCDS? Is there any other settings apart from Premuim and HandsFree (haven't tried using this setting yet) which might improve things?

Any idea why SMS recieved whilst driving don't then appear on your phone when disconnected from car? Also calls recieved whilst connected to the car don't appear in phone logs.

The microphone You can adjust using VCDS tool in the adaptations of the Bluetooth control module.

So just to be clear this is something that the dealer should be able to do for me?

Have you had the microphone level adjusted on your car, and did it make a big difference?

You have to use the head unit menu to copy the text to the phone. Otherwise it sits on the SIM card. In premium mode, the car takes over the sim and acts as a giant handset.

VCDS is a program to alter settings in the car and interrogate faults. A local member with a genuine cable should be able to help code it as Enriquez suggests. Check out the member map in the VCDS section.

I see there's a few people in London (where I live) with the VCDS, but how does this work is it a case of friends helping each other to fix problems for free, or are the people listed doing this for money?

Sorry if this is a really obvious question but the world of Skoda is all really new to me.

Most will do it for just a drink, some will charge a flat rate though so it’s always best to ask first.

Never had an issue with my volume in the Superb, but I adjusted it on SWMBO’s TT and it made no difference at all... but it was shockingly bad in the TT!

There is no reason why the volume should be low. It should "just work", and whilst one of our many fellow members might be able to fix it with VCDS, as it's a new car, there could be a defect, eg one microphone not working, so it really should go back to the dealer. You should be able to rapidly demonstrate the fault. Just get the dealer to call you when you're in the car and they should hear for themselves!

+1 mine works OK, no issues with volume which would suggest there's maybe a fault rather than it just being a bit crap

Never had an issue with my mic either.

Mine is fine too. Far better than the one in the Porsche I had before.
