Fabia Monte Carlo to a Rapid

Featured Replies

I am thinking of changing but i have always had fabias so i am asking about the pros and cons

Much bigger, looks better, just as easy to drive   same instrument layout,

slightly more expensie to run, tax is probably same, harder too hoover out, errm  thats baout it as far as I can see

Former Fabia and hated it (burnt orange one too!!!)

Positives: Much nicer interior than the very basic Fabia. More spec as standard e.g. Bluetooth. Great mpg, nicer looks. Massive boot.

Negatives: Some basic spec missing like global closing windows. Switches for rear windows in front (only missing on earlier models), boot hooks and corner pockets.

They sit VERY high also.

Overall I am chuffed with my Rapid and having previously owned a Fabia I am qualified to say.... DO IT

Next question which engine 1.2 tsi 105 green t or 1.6 tdi ct 90 green t or normal

I can only speak for the 105 1.2tsi but its a great engine nice sound quite pokey approx 45-50 mpg real figures. Remappable to 125bhp.... All green tech adds is stop start for the extra cash but will lower your road tax so if your keeping the car for 5 years it will pay for itself

How many miles do you cover?

around 8000 i have the 1.2 105 now just wondering if i will get less mpg with the 1.2 with it being a bigger car

At 8000 miles I would say you defo don't need to be forking out on a diesel only to pay more at the pumps.

I think the difference in mpg is negligible mate maybe worth checking the published figures for the difference?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if you got more MPG from the Rapid than the Fabia. It's more aerodynamic and very light for the size.

I really like the Monte Fabia, but the Rapid is a more modern and more refined car than the Fabia IMO.

£3k off list price is very good if it's a new one?

If you can get 3k off and like the spec I would jump at it! - sounds like a very good deal. I moved from Fabia to Toledo (SEAT sister car because there was one in the spec I wanted at a good price) and I am loving it. Seems a little sharper yet more planted but feels roughly like a newer Fabia yet it has loads more room and a better rear seat. There has been weigth-saving so don't worry about any difference in performance/ecomony compared with the Fabia but I think you will find the 6 speed gearbox really nice and it helps with performance and cruising (only available with 105tsi). If you are on the motorway you will find the Rapid significantly more ecomomical because of better aerodynamics. Only thing you don't get is the boot hooks and dividers as standard and make sure you are happy with the non-sport seats (sport seats are optional). Race blue looks good but so does white (especially with black wheels). Have you considered the Spaceback? I don't think it looks quite as good but it is more like a Fabia with more rear legroom - though it does look interesting with the black subroor and extended rear window). Good luck!

We took our monte in for windows to be looked at and came home having agreed to swap it for a spaceback, ours will be one from the showroom but had about £2k knocked off. My husband loved the spec of the SE and that combined with the all in servicing, maintenance an tyres on the finance sold it to us! cannot wait to pick it up and see the comparison between the two, going from 1.6 TDI to the 1.2 105 petrol in the spaceback, must say the 6 gears will be nice as he mainly does motorway driving along the M2. Theres a lot that makes the spaceback a whole lot more appealing especially the size of the boot!

you told me £3k off?

i'm not allowed to go see clive tomorrow, in case I come home with a blue octy 3 vrs estate :)

It's between 2-3 cannot remember exact amount at this point in time

The 1.2 105 in the rapid is more eco than the same engine in the fabia due to the rapid having a 6th gear. Thats what i found when my fabia was in for repairs

from the data in the brochure the rapid is also seems to be about 50kg - 100kg lighter than the current fabia so that is a fuel saving, also rapid is more aero dynamic

size wise the space back seems very close to the fabia estate, rapid is 50mm longer but slightly smaller boot capacity

Fuel economy on the Rapid with the 105 TSI engine is excellent for me, I do drive it with economy in mind though most of the time only opening it up occasionally.

I'd still like to find out what the 1.4 is like..... damn VAG for not doing a manual with that engine :(

All sounds good. Just need a bit more money for mine

The 1.4 TSI (albeit with DSG) is awsome. Really zippy and still returning 46mpg

Got offered a Sport in RED today. I thought they only came in white

The official ones do.....

"The new ŠKODA Rapid Sport is available from just £15,630 OTR. It is based on the SE trim and comes with a peppy 1.2 TSI 105PS engine and Candy White paint only"

I'm guessing it will be a red SE that the dealer has put Ray wheels and a spoiler on.....

Sounds bloody nice though!

Tis available factory order now. You should be able to negotiate a good price still, Skoda are offering £2k discount on the liftback Rapid and you should be able to get a bit more than that too.

Options on Rapid Sport: http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/rapid/equipment
