Why does my Yeti keep going "Bong" ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Over the last 2 or 3 days, on several occasions my Yeti has made a mystery "bong" sound while driving...but without any warning lights, messages etc to give me any clue why.

It's not a shrill warning beep, just a gentle bong...

Any ideas why ?

It's a 2011 CR170 Elegance, 30k miles.

Is it discovering your phone?

Not a service reminder?

Don't think it's the phone, as that pairs up as soon as I start up and makes quite a different noise.

Car still reckons 6-7k miles until next service, so it's not that....

Not something on the front seat triggering seatbelt warning?

There's a couple of coats on the passenger seat, but no real weight in them.....would there be some sort of warning light to indicate a seatbelt warning ?

Seems to just happen randomly when driving.

I guess over the last couple of days driving, which is about 160 miles, it's happened about 6 or 7 times. Prior to that I'd never heard it.

Speed warning ? if it has been previously set up at a low speed , every time you exceed that it will issue a warning...

Mine does this at 60mph but it also puts a message on the MaxiDot.

My wife's crappy Xperia J phone does have trouble keeping a stable BT connection and whilst driving this week (Only had the Yeti for a week now) we get the bong occaiosnaly, whereas my Moto G is rock solid with it's BT

You can disable the Bluetooth connection 'bong' with VCDS.

And you can obviously turn off the seat belt warning as well. Although with that notification it only usually comes up in the first minute, when you drive off - and you'd see the dash warning light as well.

It's not the speed warning, that's set to a figure that I hopefully shouldn't reach...

Bluetooth seems most plausible explanation so far - but not sure why it's only just started happening though - 3 weeks or so with no bongs, then several in a couple of days ?

Uh oh, how old is your phone.

My S3 died the same night my partner had her car stolen 120km away........dead as a dodo.

Thought it was just the battery, but no unfortunately.

Phone is an S4 that's a few months old.

I got it to replace my S3 that died...think it was the flash memory fault that a lot seem to be dying of. Partly my own fault though, as I'd rooted it and wasn't getting the latest updates - I believe they rolled out some sort of fix to try and stop it happening, but I didn't get it.

Either that or it was a protest at having to repeatedly play "Buttery Biscuit Base" on Youtube for my son - it was part way through that when it went.

Have left the S4 standard!

I've had this bong before but usually while stationary,ie radio on engine off.

Found out its the battery draining to low level , hasn't happened since fitting new battery.

I haven't heard of the bong while driving..

low voltage, in my direct exp.

from leaving a dash cam plugged in 24/7.

I've had this too.

But I just ignore it ;)

My experience with modern (i)cars is that they are very sensitive to voltage levels and odd things happening tend to be resolved with a new battery.

My 13 Yeti does this from time to time, worked it was a dodgy connection in my iPhone charger that was sensitive to movement and the 'bong' was charger connecting / disconnecting over the course of a journey.

I could understand that at startup - but this is happening in the middle of a journey though, while the battery voltage should be fine (as the alternator is running).

What made the bong sound - your phone, or the car ?

In my case it's definitely the car making the sound.

definitely the car - if I have bluetooth switched on, and listening to the radio it will switch to the bluetooth audio and the 'bong' sound comes through the speakers

Mystery solved !

It's when the Bolero loses a TP signal.

By chance today I happened to be looking at the screen when "TP" changed to "No TP", and I heard the bong.

Confirmed by switching back and forth between radio stations with a decent signal, and stations from a completely different area with no signal. Got the bong every time I lost TP.

Currently driving around Dartmoor and been getting quiet a few songs, not sure if it was coming from the car or Android Auto, no warning lights, but still sightly concerned, glad a quick search of the forum has confirmed on loss of TP, which is not surprising being out in the wilds.
