Anyone used ATS for air con?

Featured Replies

Had a 60k service recently, and aware that ATS do a recharge and bacteria thing for £33 on Amazon Local at the mo, and although my air con is pretty cold, I'd like to get it topped just in case there's any possibility of the lubricant having worn out or disappeared, as well as the fact there's a slight foot smell I've had for a little while so hopefully that'll get sorted with a service along with this new filter.

Has anyone on here used ATS and are there any pleasant or horror stories from using them for air con only, not tyre and balancing or suspension stuff cos loads of companies can balls that up!

Hmm, that's disappointing. Does anyone know if they do a more thorough job in the bacterial front at Skoda? I think it's over double at £69, but it might be you pay what you get, it might be it's just the stealers living up to their reputation. :wonder:

Looks a good deal. I'm going to buy one for the Mrs Golf, and one for myself.

There's not a lot to it to be honest. Vacuum old refrigerant out, pressure test, fill with new refrigerant and dye. I wouldn't go to a dealer to do it.

I think the Dealer jobbie is Bacteria cleaner released in to the Cabin with all windows shut, It's placed near the pollen filter so I'm wondering if the Pollen Filtre is removed and with the Air Con Running it draws the cleaner into the system and then releases it out through the vents therefor cleaning the system/pipes and vents. The doors are then opened and you can't drive it for about 20 mins as the cleaner needs to escape.

Had the foot smell recently and bought a can of Comma Aircon cleaner from Halfords. Admittedly I had to but a second can but the smell has now gone.

Seen a post on a forum (here maybe?) where someone had placed a magic tree air freshener in the cabin filter housing.

Worth a try lol.

Got mine booked in to the local independent on Tuesday for £40. ATS is over 30 miles from ne

I've used a local Indy the few times I've had it done, much cheaper than main stealer and chains like ATS.

I did ATS for £33 few days ago.

Horrible horrible clinical smell masking my air con smell.

I feel the musty smelly sock coming back already.

Had the Skoda air con service last year.

Lovely perfume fragrance that only masked the air con smell.

The musty smell came back within weeks.

I will try the DIY option.

Have a cannister of COMMA and CarPride to try ...

Some say its worth checking if your pollen filter needs changing.

Plus switch off air con and put it on full HEATING blast for 5mins at end if journey ...

Honestly, try the cold/hot thing. Worked on mine!

Tried ATS

Cold air and no more smells! Changed the filter for free for me too! Top service!

Wow

Pollen filter?

And mine it seems. After being parked up at the airport for a few days it hummed but that's gone now, at least for a bit it seems.

Just had my 'tired' aircon done at Kwikfit for under £50. As good as new now. It had lost around 30% of its original refrigerant (5 years old)

When it does smell I turn the heater on full blast for 10 mins (without me in the car!) That kills the smell & bacteria I guess...

Wow

Pollen filter?

Yes I know its nothing special - would have done it myself

But the part was in the car, couldnt be arsed to do it - and they were kind enough to do it!

Saved me all of 1 minute but still a service you can hardly fault for £33

Had mine done today at local garage. Gets that cold the windscreen mists up

If that's the sign of a good cold air con, then mine is fine cos it does the same after 5 years without being fiddled with. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Had mine done at ATS using the £33 voucher after buying my car a month or two earlier and found the A/C wasn't very good. Took about and hour and a quarter. They said all was fine, no leaks etc (The deal specifically states a leak test will be done before attempting to fill and the fill will not take place if a leak is detected). Drove a few yards down the road and it was obvious it still wasn't working. Took it back and they said it sometimes took two goes to get it right and asked me to come back next night. Same thing next night. This time they told me it wasn't working before I left. They said there might be a leak after all but their equipment didn't detect it and suggested I see a specialist A/C person. The ATS system seems to be more or less fully automated. To be fair they did try twice and refunded my voucher code when they couldn't get it to work. Can anybody recommend a car A/C specialist in the Oxfordshire. Buckinghamshire area?

The system most of these places use vacuums the old refrigerant and any water from the system. If it can't get sufficient vacuum then it throws an alarm to say there must be a leak and won't refill it. So they must have been able to get a vacuum on yours and therefore no leak? If it filled then it should have contained a UV dye which they should be able to see using a UV light? Or don't ATS put a dye in, is that why they are cheaper?

Just thinking out loud really but am sure you catch my drift.
