2010 Octavia VRS Estate buying help please.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am after some help.

We are looking at Px'ing our Ford Smax for an Octavia VRS estate and have come across what looks like an ideal car at westend Skoda in Edinburgh.

The car is a 2010 plate 2.0 petrol (TSI I think)in Silver and has done just under 25000 miles.

First of all should I be put off the car as it has such low mileage for the age?(Could of spent alot of time broke ??)

What should I be looking for when i go and view it on Saturday?

Its up at £11495 ? Does this sound resonable or should I be looking at movement on the price?

What sor of MPG are people getting from thier own TSI versions?

Thanks

Steve

Those figures would make some diesel drivers envious. I get 30-35mpg on a 20 mile commute which is mainly motorway and A roads.

Seriously? 50mpg from a 2.0 petrol?

I wouldn't worry on the mileage, my 2010 has only just passed 20k :)

Just make sure the service history is fully up to date. MOT certs (assuming there is two) should give indication of annual miles covered.

Price looks a little high, but if it is low mileage and in top condition...

Thanks for the replies peeps !!

will report back when Ive had a gander at it!

what should it sound like when started up ??

I agree. Don't think it's possible. I managed 43 mpg over 160 miles on the A303, London to Exeter. That was driving as light footed as possible and not going over 70. Normal driving is low 30's.

There has been some cases of the timing chain tensioner failing on the early tsi engines,id be asking the dealer about this car & if its had a replacement engine, you should get a years warranty with a used skoda from a dealer.

On start up it might sound slightly tappety, even mildly diesely. They all do that, Sir.

BUT, don't worry. It won't drive anything like a diesel!

A Silver 2010 vRS 2010 Estate should be a quality piece of kit - see my sig ;-)

I hope you like it. After the S-Max which, let's face it, is a class leader in its area, particularly in respect of how it drives, the Skoda will still feel like a go-kart.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Cheers,

Dunc.

Seems a bit optimistic. I get that out of a diesel vrs with mixed driving.

Thanks for all the replies so far..

Before the Smax we had a Mazda 6 sport estate that we really liked but it was let down by very poor paintwork.

When looking at the Mazda we also considered the Octavia VRS but couldnt find one in our budget with the spec we wanted.

Need an estate car for the springer and kids junk that goes with us every where.

The thing with the Smax is that although its a nice car and pleasant enough to drive, 95 % of the time its to big for us, I guess we didnt realize until we bought it.

As our kids are now starting to get to the age and height that they dont need booster seats Im sure we could get away with an estate car with a roof box.

Also the Smax does an average of around 29mpg and isnt that quick to be honest and it never makes me want to just go out for a spin in it!

If it's any use, I get high 30's/low 40's for my drive to work: a couple of miles of urban roads, a 10 minute motorway squirt and another mile or so of urban at the other end.

I'd say the price is reasonable recalling my research a couple of months ago, but it's always worth looking for some movement or some other benefit (service/MOT/Tax etc). There's always some slack in the dealer price.

I phoned about this car, its seem okay.  No real extras on it though however it sounds like it been 2nd or 3rd car hence the mileage, was traded in by someone getting a new one.

Dont really have time to view it so would be interesting to see what you think if you dont buy it.

Cheers Coullstar.

Do you have any more info on it at all?

Do you know how long it's been for sale and whether or not the dealer are keen to shift it?

Just had a phone back from the dealer and its sold Im afraid.  I had said I might go see it so he was just phoning to tell me its gone.

It was only put on sale last Friday by the way.  They seem to go quick up here as there isnt a lot about.

That's a shame.

The hunt continues then!

What options are there available that are a must have?

Got to sell this first.........

I bought my 2010 tsi hatch two years ago and paid just under £14k with 21k miles on it. Mine has maxidot , xenons (also get auto lights and wipers as part of it), blue tooth, reverse acoustic park and spare wheel. Would recommend maxidot and acoustic park as good options. I spent a while searching for one with factory xenons as well as they make quite a difference

Most independent compilations or real world MPG, over a large sample, is more like 30 MPG.

I wouldn't want anyone to buy a petrol Vrs based upon 45-50 mpg!!!

I have a 2010 petrol estate. Just to let you know that I have kept mine on check with Fuelly since owning, and my average is 31.0 miles per gallon. (approx 36k covered)

Best I have had was 38.0 a couple of times on a few long airport runs.

To be fair though, I don't do that much motorway drving.

Oh, and the worst tank came in at 27.9....  :o  (when I say worst, it must have been enjoyable...)

Couple of things...

Getting 45-50mpg with the TSi is impossible, think the second post has assumed he's talking about a diesel.

I've got a 2009 TSi and i average around 33-34mpg... 40mpg on a long journey recently and 23mpg if you hoon it about 100%. As far as the price goes, it depends on the spec the car is?

Defo get a silver one! Best colour. This is mine20140523_182817.jpg

Thanks for the replies.

They seem to be rare up here in Scotland and are selling really quickly.

Ive found anouther one for sale in the UK.

Silver petrol dsg with 25k miles for 11995, no options on it so I think its overpriced but the dealer(non skoda) got a bit arsey with me when I told hom so.!!

What am I looking at realistically for a budget of £11500 ?

Wow, I reckon you might struggle!

I just tried Autotrader and filtered the search as follows:

Skoda Octavia

Estate

Keyword: vRS

Petrol

Max price: £12,000

Transmission: Any

A total of three cars across the whole of the UK!

Do you think my budget is to low then ??

Im happy to go for a 60k miler diesel if that helps.

It's the petrol element that's restricting the availability, not so much your budget.

The most common vRS's are diesel (please let's not turn this thread into a petrol vRS vs. diesel vRS thread - it's already been done to death, hundreds of times!) so changing the search criteria to 'Fuel: All' exposes lots more choice, 3 cars to 39 in fact.

To get a low mileage example will result in a higher price (all the diesels under £12K have over 50,000 miles on them), it is a fact that the petrol models fetch less, but then they are much rarer which as you've seen allows them to hold their price.

Stretching to £13K opens you up to these two petrols, one main dealer, one independent:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/skoda/octavia/postcode/sl13yd/radius/1500/keywords/vRS/sort/pricedesc/body-type/estate/price-to/13000/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/maximum-mileage/up_to_25000_miles

Another £1,000 (£14,000) starts to see the low mileage diesels appearing:
