1.9TDi Advice

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

just got a 1.9TDi Ambiente and looking for a nice back box. I'm only really interested in the back box for now but i'm struggling to find any aftermarket ones for the 1.9TDi only for VRS, will a back box for a vrs be ok and will it also be a direct fit? as I don't get much time to get welding done and marking it up, was pain in the ass on my last car (Fiesta Mk4). I don't Have much turbo knowledge either so any advice would be great.

I'm not looking to spend anything over £150 max, only need a back box.

Thanks in advance :D

Also I know it would need a cut out and i'm happy to do it. Don't Want a non cut out exhaust aha tacky.

Cheers!

Look up Mufflerectomy. Basically, on the TDI you can chop your back box off and put a straight pipe on with very little increase in noise. An exhaust shop should do it for you quite cheaply, or if you have all the tools yourself (welder, angle grinder) then you can do it yourself.

I found it very hard to seal the straight through sections onto the exhaust pipe but a bit of gun gum sorted it.

The reason it doesn't increase noise too much is that the turbo acts as a silencer apparently. The main change is when idling and cold the engine is a tad noisier, you this airy noise. Also when you accelerate hard and build boost to about 2500 rpm then let of suddenly you get this nice owl noise which is always good fun.

If you have the pip sticking out the back you will get a sooty bumper though!
