vRS Combi B Pillar Rattle

Featured Replies

Afternoon fine chaps.

Ok, this has been happening for about the last month, car has now covered just under 4k.

If I hit a sharp bump, traffic calming strips, change in road surface etc. I get a very audible rattle fairly high up somewhere (I think) inside the drivers side B Pillar.

No idea what it is and nothing's gone wrong with the car.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and whether they have established what it is?

Thank you.

Not sure if the Octy 3 has the same/similar sunglasses compartment as the Octy 2 in the roof, but I had the same sound as you descibe and it was driving me insane. Turned out it was actually my sunglasses rattling around in that compartment!

Hi Dan, good try but no compartment I'm afraid.

Sure its not your seat height adjuster?? Common problem.

Ive got it on mine.  Its like a bee drone in the pillar and Ive had it since I got the car.  I fixed it for a while by pushing a fuel card into the gap above the adjuster.  THe dealer had a go at fixing it by replacing the B-Pillar cover but it didnt work and Ive not been back to request it looked at again yet.

After the replacement B-Pillar was fitted the credit card trick stopped working so im living with it at the moment until im not too busy to lose the car for a day :(

Agree with you, sounds like the belt adjuster location .

However, haven't yet experienced it on mine though

I had it on my passenger's side B pillar. While I was the passenger during a trip, I was bored so I did a quick "massage" to the B pillar area right next to the seat and it went away! No other noises from that area since then.

Ok boys, I'm off for a massage....oo err!

"Massaging it" bought me about a month on the passenger b pillar. Driver's does it intermittently. Speaker grilles are my main offender at present though!

I had the same issue on my hatch, drove me fecking insane!!!!!! Then the good lady pointed out maybe it's the sunglasses.....dang! Sorted by the wife but at least it's sorted.

Now getting a light rattle from the adjuster (plastics) from the seat belt, an strip of electrical tape will sort that though.

Coincidentally I had the same problem yesterday on the A46. the road soon turned into a car park near Newark so had time for a furtle round. the rubber strip at the back of the drivers' window running horizontally had worked itself free so with some of the aforementioned massaging I moulded it back in but didn't think that could be the source of such an irritating 'buzz. It was :whew:

2000k in since March 1st first and still loving it (vRS TDI Combi) with just the odd little gripe and, yes thank you, I have remembered my mobile...

Tried the massage method as previously mentioned, I feel better but the cars the same. Got some hols due, might pop into my local stealer.

2000 miles, 2k, d'oh! 10 out of 10 for paying attention!

A few days after picking up a MY 13 Octavia wagon, it started to get a buzzing sound in the driver's side B Pillar.

A tech traced it to a vibrating fuel line, and secured it with an extra clip. Total cost of diagnostic time and repair= £9.52.

I hope my post helps someone else with a buzz!

yup my sunglasses rattle around in the holder too... so much so its fecking pointless and cant use it grrr

Fixed my seat belt adjuster buzz by pushing a foam ear plugs into the gap above the adjusters  :sun:

Sorry, old post but realised I never replied!

It was the Vindis Skoda dealer in Cambridge. They've cost me a lot more than that, sometimes(!) but on that occasion it was a pleasant surprise.
