Skoda Octavia VRS remap

Featured Replies

Let's collect our opinions about different remap options in this topic.

I am currently waiting for BSR to release their map, should be with later this month. The reasons why i want BSR:

1.Already had my old octy vrs mapped with bsr software, no problems, nice gains

2. PPC 3 device that comes with update, makes it possible to tune and detune the car as many times as needed, plus provides some diagnostics options.

Are there any better options on the market?

One more question this is my first experience with DSG transmision, can i just remap the engine or do i also need to remap the transmission (is it a must)?

thanks!

Petrol or diesel?  I'd quite like to get mine done (diesel) to gain a few MPGs.

If there is a way to remap the DSG so it holds the revs slightly more than Normal mode but not as revvy as Sport mode, I'd be interested in that too.

APR is close to releasing their stage 1 (OBD flash) at > 300 bhp, and their stage 2 at 344 bhp (software, downpipe and intake), see their FB page.

That is an impressive figure. Always rated APR too.

BSR will also be out this month. So after my holiday i will be burning rubber like crazy:)

I don't think having the map is the problem, cracking the encryption on the ECU however, does seem the difficult bit.

Not sure which way the other tuners mentioned above work, but the APR stage 1 is a proper ECU re-coding, i.e. they cracked the encryption.  They got German TUV approval some weeks ago, so it shouldn't be long before it's on the market.

One thing appears everywhere: people are stunned by the tuning potential of this engine (EA888), mainly thanks to its big OEM turbo.

Will the DSG be able to handle the increase in torque without issue?

I remember reading that their development cars were DSG, so guess they must be confident in the box. They do give a bit of an advisory on clutches though, with all that extra torque. Though they offer pegged back maps to reign in the additional torque a bit.

Sounds good... could be installed in a VRS on my drive soon. :D

Wish someone could store the remap along side the original and it could be selected on the go via the VRS button. A true sport mode.  In fact a third, eco map for town poodles too.  Sigh, no. Chance of that though I presume.

APR have broken the encryption and have a jump over competitors, but others may follow. We know that APR can reprogram the VRS TSI via the diagnostic port, so Superchips Blufin should also work once they crack it. The Blufin allows owners to flash standard or tuned maps backwards and forwards, so gets around the possibility of VW/Skoda/Seat flashing your ECU back to stock during service updates and leaving you with a bill for another APR dealer flash.

Others may prefer a DTUK/DTE tuning box that is user tuneable, fully removable, and likely the cheapest Stage 1 option available. However tuning boxes do not necessarily have all of the mapping options (or as precise mapping options) available, so you need to be a little less risk adverse to use one.

Currently APR appears to be the best option, but with the current Golf/Octavia/Lean 2.0TSI engine being so popular others will follow with remaps. I am tempted, but I need the correct price vs performance vs flexibility compromise so will wait for the dust to settle.

Superchips Blufin running an APR-esk map programmable via the diagnostic port would be the ideal solution.

Most people only drive under full-beans mode for short periods (let's say 5% of the time). If full-beans on a Stage 1 car wears the clutch/gearbox out 2x as fast then the actual lifespan of a DSG box will remain relatively unaffected (assuming normal driving habits for the rest of the time). A stock box may last 80K miles vs 75K miles for a modded car being driven hard for 5% of the time. Even assuming that 380lb/ft torques causes 4x the wear the difference may only be 10K or so miles before failure.

80K miles was a figure I picked out of the air.

Revo is being tested already for a month in Russia. People say that it goes faster then golf 7 r. They could not say the release date and said very very soon.

Makes me wonder the difference parts wise (I. E turbo) between the ea888 engines used in vrs, golf r, Leon cupra etc or is it mainly software tuning for the extra gains.......

The block and internals are likely very similar. The R (and other high-end 2.0TSI  models) will have a bigger turbo, better intercooler, higher flow injectors, and less restrictive exhaust/cat setups.

Has anyone got any views or opinions of crd technology and their select a map product, regards nick.

316bhp on a stage 1,...wow,....230bhp/tonne, my car flies already, lord knows how well it'd go with that amount of power per tonne.

So, just read the APR link and noticed they are actually quoting 381flbt plus 316bhp on stage 1,......................considering the car weighs in at just 1.37 tonne for the DSG equipped car, all I can say is, I so hope I can afford it!!!
