When toys go bad~warranty work fight

Featured Replies

I was one of the lucky ones to get ACC and front assist. Now with all these fancy toys there is more chance of things going wrong.

Last week on my drive home from work I tried to use the ACC and up popped an error message that wouldn't go away (system error). Trip to dealer and booked in today for 2 days to sort Eco mode update, ACC fault and sort settings for towbar as not set up correctly when I picked it up (reversing sensors panicking when trailer hooked up)

Well 1pm this afternoon I received a call telling me that the ACC fault is caused because front assist has detected 3 objects in quick succession, intervened and turned itself off to avoid an accident. This is NOT covered by Warranty. Oh and as your towbar is not official Skoda parts it's not covered.

Well cue the ranting from me about if the car had slammed the brakes on 3 times I would of known about it and as for the towbar it was fitted with towbar prep by Skoda before I'd even met the car.

"Oh sorry I will get my colleague to check the computer again and call you back".................... I'm still waiting.

iI's hard enough with translation going through a German dealer but I'm not prepared to except this one. Bring on the fight.

On top of the fact they didn't code your car correctly for a towbar either!!

A 'System Error' is something more serious than detecting 3 things in quick succession, otherwise it would clear when you cycled the ignition.

Andy I'm a victim of my own obsession with technology. When it goes wrong I'm powerless. As for the error they ran a diagnostic and it had been activated 3 times according to the car so it turned it off to be safe. I'm sure I'd have whiplash if that was the case but only switched on the ACC. Maybe it's that mystery crisp packet up to mischief again. Something has really upset it. I know one thing my wallet it staying firmly shut.

Which dealer are you using?

Autohaus brinker Isselhorst

I could understand the logic that if the ACC system activates the brakes a number of times in very quick sucession it will disable the system in case the radar detection is not working correctly and e.g. it detects objects flashing infront of the radar.

However, I wouldnt expect this to happen condition to occur during normal driving unless there was a fault with the system.

Firstly, they seem to be ignoring that the error is caused by a potential fault & secondly I agree with you that the reset of the system should be covered under warrenty at the least.

I assume the towbar was fitted at the same garage you are taking it to now?

If your problems persist I would bypass the dealer & contact Skoda Customer Services directly.

(Skoda dealers are only a franchise & are not owned by Skoda.

They quite like the sales part because they get to make money from this side but the service & aftersales is part of their agreement for the franchise.

Although its strange because any warrenty repair is billed back to Skoda (usually at very high rates!))

Well they have phoned today to say they need the car for 2 more days so I'm guessing a little more than a reset. No mention of money now.

As for the towbar it was supplied and fitted by the dealer in the Uk before I collected the car. Towbar prep was done at the factory. Lane assist issue on the first drive due to towbar fitting so Andyvee had to change settings for me. It was only when I tried it out with a trailer that I discovered more issues. Simply issue of supplying dealer not doing there job. This should all fall under Skoda warranty.

IMO this something that would be covered by the dealer who did the work, not Skoda themselves.....

It's all official skoda parts, this is one of the reasons I specced the towbar prep for the wiring so all the dealer does is finish it off. The issue is actually is with the PDI not being done correctly. I would say yes that is the supplying dealers fault but that's skoda's issue with the dealer.

In my opinion Autohaus Brinker is the best dealership in Gutersloh area - I am sure that they will sort this out for you eventually. I've had issues claiming for warranty work on a uk supplied car in Germany. I would ring Skoda customer services uk to log issue and supplying dealer in uk too so that they are aware.

I'll pm you in a mo.

Well finally got my car back today. All work has been covered by the warranty. They still wouldn't admit there was a fault and were still trying to find excuses like maybe I was driving too close to the car in front and the FA triggered three times but I wasn't entertaining that. The job itself is a nightmare and complicated. The only way they could sort it was to reset the whole system which is a difficult process and when that didn't work they changed the ACC motherboard and did it all again through lengthy dialogue and advise from Skoda (strange considering it wasn't faulty). Towbar issue was easily done with VCDS.

Glad you got it sorted, it shouldn't have been an issue as for the first 2 years the warranty is a manufacturer item and pan European, it is only when you get into the 3rd year that it becomes a uk warranty and European issues will arise.
