Average Speed cameras

Featured Replies

They have installed average speed cameras on the A9 north of Perth and these are now undergoing testing.

However, one section between 2 cameras is part single carriageway and part duel carriageway - as these roads have different speed limits how are the cameras going to work that out???

Not difficult to work it out.

Easy to work out, but I'm not sure you can be prosecuted for commiting one offense or another (SP60 or SP70).

Surely on average speed camera sections its for roadworks and the speed limit is normally enforced at 50mph?

If its just on normal road then it should be easy enough to work out where one should be doing 60mph or 70mph (as applicable) and the camera settings should be set to know how quickly you should be going between cameras based on XXX metres of 60mph and XXX metres of 70mph?  That's how I hope it would work,

I've never seen average speed cameras apart from in roadworks, and where I have seen them it's where roadworks have recently been, and they all have signs "camera not in use" on them,.

I thought that mate, but then i thought. What speed do you get prosicuted for? And which limit were you breaking?

Theyve got them on the cat and fiddle near me. Some dont work though, cos they put em up then realised theres 2 commonly used national speed limit shortcuts that bugger up their logic.

There was exactly the same on the Redditch highway towards Bromsgrove several months ago, but I've not been on that road since so don't know if they are still there, still testing or now operational.

Where I've seen them, there is a camera wherever the limit changes.

Me to. Iv been overtaken many times on the straight bit on the cat and fiddle. Then they brake at the cameras, and then they go really slow in the corners. Annoys the hell out of me! Haha

On the A9, there is a Pilot Scheme to raise the NSL for HGV's,

are you sure they are not going to Post Speed Limits and reduce the Speed Limits

on the Dual Carriageway section on the bit where is is Single & Dual.?

Or the Average for the whole distance between cameras, mixed speeds as on the A77.

Dutch House Roundabout 50 then into the 70,

then at Minishant to Maybole.  Maybole- Kirkoswald..

ANPR gives the Vehicle Class, & HGVs will get the 50 Average on both sections,

single and dual.

These Cameras will also be ANPR for VED after October when Paper Tax Discs go.

Average speed cameras are popping up on quite a number of "normal" roads now - they have had them on the A77 for a good many years now and they really do calm, driving.

Still get bikers racing on the cat fiddle. I'm not sure how. False plates? Who knows.

slider.

Well they do for those that do not know which ones are operational, and which are not.

(A clue to which stretches are in Operation is the Local Drivers, like Post Office & Taxis and how they are going.)

But forget the yellow McBurney Lorries, they must have cloaks of Invisibility and special Tachos.

with the A9 as everyplace else, you just follow the NSL for the vehicle you are driving,

& follow the Reduced Speeds where posted at the correct distances etc.

Because putting average speed cameras on there was an epic fail, as they face the front of traffic and bikes don't have front plates which means they don't have to obey the limit.

I can understand the math to work out that the average over a stretch of mixed road should be (say) 64 mph, but there is no offence, as far as I know, of "exceeding the 64 mph speed limit. What I dont understand is what and how they will prosecute you.

maybe they lust race while between cameras then have  a wee breather before the pass the next one?

Point take George but I rarely see cars speeding on that road now.

Good,

my cloak must be fully functioning.

(not any use on a red car though)

On the car and fiddle, if you drive over at night, you can see some glow up red, and some dont. I never take the risk though haha.

Also, one even has the wires hanging down, clearly not connected.

Love getting over to Argyll and manage it 3 or 4 times a year with work - as a portion of my work is usually out of the office its not such a burden.

Have a bit going on in East Ross & Sutherland and Caithness just now so more lovely scenery!

Every morning M1 south through roadworks @ Catthorpe. Lost count of the number of drivers doing it :wall:

Keep your eyes peeled if you are coming into Plymouth along Gdynia Way then.  Average speed cameras in the 30 limit which are on permanently.

There are a couple of estates in Gloucester which have them as well, the roads in question are popular rat runs apparently.

There was exactly the same on the Redditch highway towards Bromsgrove several months ago, but I've not been on that road since so don't know if they are still there, still testing or now operational.

Those cameras initially went up and were running about 2 years ago, but then the 'not in use' signs went up and they got taken down shortly after and disappeared for a long time. They've been put back up over the last month or two. No idea whether they are operational now, but I haven't spotted and signs to say otherwise. Worth sticking to 70+tax unless you have the spare £60 to test them ;)

Or finding your way round the country lanes - personally not an option I'd take as I know by brother uses that road and I wouldn't want to meet him coming the other way.  There'd be fibreglass everywhere.
