If delivered car is slightly different to car ordered...?

Featured Replies

I dont doubt the diesels are more efficient but Im only seeing a 47mpg long term average on my 150 TDi after 4.5k miles which isnt utterly astounding given its supposed 67 (in its dreams) combined cycle mpg.

When I bought my Mk2 Blackline I very quickly realised Id bought the right car but with the wrong engine and regretted it almost from Day One; only the v good standard spec and deal I got on it appeased the suffering......swore if I ever bought (with my own money) another vRS it would be a petrol. The TDi isnt a slow car (my 150 is impressive given its not exactly a powerhouse) but it goes nothing like the TSi and both v different than just the fuel that powers them.

I can almost guarantee if you take the TSi temporarily you'll not want to give it back and the fuss of getting them to order a replacement TDi purely on the basis theyve made a mistake will likely be in vain.

  • OK - so here's what's going to happen... On Saturday I will pick up my new car with a slight unexpected amendment to the order in that it will be the TSI that arrived on the car transporter yesterday

  • Problem is once you've been tooling around in the TSI for several months, moving into a TDI same spec is just going to feel like a downgrade......

Your contract is with the dealer and not Skoda in the UK or abroad (though they will obviously assist to sort out some problems) so that's where any discussions need to start.   As for the attitude

I'm on close to 54mpg on my 2.0TDI 150 after a similar mileage. Once it's run it I'm sure I'll see better figures.

They could change the engine for a diesel & all that's related to it. Compensation still due though.

I had a 150 for a week in Jan and got 61mpg over 200miles commuting over 4days. This had only done 4k too so either you sit in traffic or have a very heavy right foot.

Dealer has made a mistake and it will cost them, unless you roll over and take the tsi. If, from the mpg figures banded about, you call it £800 pa extra fuel costs to you, multiply that by how long you expect to keep it. Eg 3years x £800 = £2400. Get them to take that figure off the price of the car and wheelspin off into the future !

They won't want to lend it to you for months and reorder an identical tdi.

If only... people would use apostrophes properly.  Never mind the if only... I could afford to live that lifestyle.

Funnily enough I did notice after posting and realised the error, but couldn't be bother to fix such a moot point.

Fair comment, I have seen 55mpg at times and have recently been doing alot of short runs which doesnt help.

Am a bit lead footed with it admittedly but then you have to be to get a 150hp diesel car to get a reasonable shift on, better than the last one I had by a huge margin but still suffers a bit from low rev turbo lag.

My view.....either keep the TSi and work a good deal on it (and enjoy it for being the better drivers machine) or if cost of ownership is more of a concern get them to lend you something half reasonable (one of their demonstrators/showroom cars) and get them to order you the TDi and put the TSi into their new car stock. I think running the TSi then going to the TDi will dilute the experience for you.

Key thing here I think, is that you are Happy!

Pictures and a build thread needed when it arrives :)

Jonjc, the smile from ear to ear is worth the extra fuel cost when the DSG is changing up @ 6,000 revs, have you seen my fuelly and I've only got the little one.

Good news and who cares what anyone else thinks. Enjoy your new VRS in just 36 hours time ;)

Glad too see its been sorted and you are very happy with the end result. End of the day we are all human and make mistakes. You took the right approach by not going in like a bull in a China shop as no doubt that would make the problem worse.

The only person important in deciding if the outcome is acceptable or not is you. Long term I think you took the best approach as you now stand a far better chance of getting good treatment from this dealer than you would have done if you'd been a PITA, so enjoy your new car......now I wonder if I could be so lucky next time round LOL.

Win-Win.

Well done.

Best decision in my mind. Put it this way had I bought a Mk2 vRS TSi instead of my Blackline I reckon Id have almost certainly still had it now and not chopped it for the (arguably more boring being a non-vRS) Mk3 I have now.

There is alot to be said for letting your heart rule from time to time, providing you dont drive like a p-rick all the time fuel costs arent going to be bank breaking given you can afford to fund a 24k car....their mistake could v well have led to an even better outcome for you.

If my dealer had ordered me a vRS TSi instead of my dull old Elegance 150 TDi I'd have probably jumped at it, way too gooder an opportunity to have missed!

Glad to hear that you got the deal you wanted...  enjoy your new motor...

Good to hear you have resolved this to your satisfaction, as long at the end of the day you have got what you wanted out of the new deal and you have made a new friend in the manager who will now, I think, be more likely to bend over backwards to help you out when the need arises. Then I'm with everyone else saying enjoy your new motor tomorrow and many more days to come.

Ian.
