Wheel alignment

Featured Replies

Just replaced my VRS Estate petrol's conti2s at the front with Goodyear F1's as after 11K shredded on the outside. Took advantage of free alligmment check and guess what, miles out front and back. Now adjusted so hope I get better wear on the Goodyears

Wonder if we have any comeback when this happens on a car from new? Surely not everyone goes to a garage to check the alignment after they pick the car up. Tyres should last a lot longer than that.

11k for the fronts on a vRS TSi is pretty good.

I have never had more than 10k out of a set of fronts on both my current and last VRS. All worn perfectly with no alignment issues

Same issue on mine, how did you get a free allignment check?? was it with a certain garage or by dealer?? any info on a free check would be much appreciated, :)

Please don't say it was a KwikFit alignment with the lasers they hang off of the wheels.........

You can't beat a geometry check on a Hunter rig or similar.

it was at Formula one autocenters, Their price for supply and fit for the Goodyear was as good as everyone but did the tracking check for free but did charge for adjust (£80) but I took to a local garage I trust and had the adjustment done there.

If anyone is interested tracking before was

                                 FRONT

Right toe in -1.0                           Left toe in +1.50

                                 BACK

Right toe in +1.20                        Left toe in  +0.70

after adjustment all at 0.8

Just been to Kwikfit with a suspected slow puncture, fortunately its all OK but guy did comment that the tyres arent wearing terribly but the outside edge of my tyres are feathered already....mild expletive was used when I told him it had only done 4.5k miles.....sounds like the Mk2 all over again!

They never come out of the factory perfectly aligned.

They never come out of the factory perfectly aligned.

What would you say is the stance to take on that?

Is this part of the PDI?

I would expect when I receive the car from the dealer that this should have been checked… and I'm now thinking I'm going to ask for verification of this (a printout perhaps)!

They don't check alignment as part of the PDI as far as I know - unless when they road test the car drifts or pulls to one side. That is how it used to be, but things may have changed.

The only way of being sure is having a geometry check done and any adjustments made to get the settings bang on the centre of the tolerance range.

If the dealer has a Hunter rig, ask them to check it and give you a print out. If all they have are the 4 wheel alignment laser kit, then get a geometry check done elsewhere.

The factory settings will be to make sure that each wheel is within tolerance, but that is not the same as full geometry set-up.

Great, thanks andyvee for the advice… confirms what I was thinking and seems like the logical thing to do to have it checked properly.

Probably pushing it here… but does anyone know or have access to the info on the camber, caster and toe-in/out for the vRS (or know if it's accessible on the net somewhere)?

Just go to a specialist with a Hunter rig, they have all the settings updated on their system regularly.
