Octy -vrs- Superb

Featured Replies

I know someone that can't make up their mind between buying a new Octavia Estate or a Superb Estate, both of the 4x4 diesel L&K variety with pretty much a heap of options.

There seems to be little difference is size or cost.

So how do you separate the two?

I've never had either so lack experience.

Octy seems to have the option of some very slightly better toys and the Superb can be ordered with the better (IMO) ivory interior and DSG 4x4 if required.

  • Have to say, one downside is I now understand why they don't call it an estate. Because it's not.  Must be why they came up with "Avant". The boot "headroom" is practically not existant as it's got

The octavia despite being the best spec available is based on a mundane mainstream model and so will have all of the characteristics of an octavia so wont be as quiet or ride as well as the superb which is designed to be a luxury product and as such has all of those mannerisms regardless of spec. Much quieter and more refined altho obviously slighty behind in terms of tech conectivity if comparing to a mk3 octavia. Other people are entitled to their own wrong opinion of course

no help at all but a Superb in 8X8X would be nice :)

My calculation would be simple... which has the highest engine spec vs weight of vehicle.

But that's just me being a car neanderthal. I still think ABS and power steering are high-tech... don't get me started on people who buys cars because they have infrared cameras, etc :dull:

Eh infra red cameras?

Are they on military skirmishes or something?

Won't be long til they have the superman style X-ray camera!

I always think the octy looks a little more sporty, where as the superb looks more luxury, smooth comfy n quiet.

I havent driven either though. So. Im probably wrong haha.

Going from a Superb to an Octy, the superb is a class above with regards to refinement, comfort etc.

I think the only reason I went to an Octy was because I didn't want another of the car I already had. When the superb 3 comes out however...

It's really personal preference isn't it. I'd be very wary of offering any advice only to take the blame when they get it wrong.

Thumb in the air.

Octy faster, harder, noisier, cheaper

Superb, slower, quieter, more comfortable, dearer

Unless they particularly want a smaller sportier feeling car the Superb will probably be the better option. Will probably hold it's money better to.

When I read the thread title I thought Skoda were about to bring out a Superb vRS!

The Octavia is the much newer car, make of that what you will.

My money would be on the Superb.

Whilst not having driven a MkIII Octavia vRS I did own a MkII vRS for a good while immediately before the Superb.

My priorities changes. I wanted a comfy cruiser that had enough oomph to overtake and that wouldn't rattle out my fillings.

If kids kicking the back of your seat annoy you go for the Superb!

Best of both worlds in the rubble household, mine Superb Greenline 3 combi, Mrs rubble mark 3 Octavia vrs tsi hatch. They are chalk and cheese the Octavia is quick, got some nice toys, the technology is up to date and the whole thing feels well screwed together. The ride on the Octavia is sporty (hard) for me, I've not really driven it that far, not allowed so cannot comment on driving experience.

My superb, feels like a big Octavia Mk 2, yes it's not quick, but keeps up with the traffic on the daily grind. It's a comfortable cruiser, quiet fuel efficient and spacey. It has enough kit on it for me. The build quality is good and it's the light extras that make a difference, kick plates on all the door sills, light in centre console etc.

get a superb l+k and go for a 3.6 v6  :p

I remember going in a Superb taxi which was fairly new. Reminded me of going in a top of the range Merc when I was a kid. Lovely cars.

don't forget the 4WD, or is that standard?

Superb, slower

Remap sorts that

Thing is they want 4x4 and a bit of poke/traction.

The Greenline doesn't have any poke and is only two wheel drive, while the Octy vRS has poke, but can't actually put it down until rolling and the ride is harder than they want.

A worthy engine and drivetrain, but a bit high on the running costs. :D

Strangely I felt the same going in a superb as when I was in a Vauxhall Senator which was top of the range back then!

I thought Richard was building one [emoji15]

Now, this does go against the grain a bit...   but I've advised them to look at an Audi. :peek:

Odd as that may sound you can get an A6 through drivethedeal with a hefty discount and a better choice of engines paired to the four wheel drive system.

Put simply there is a lot more choice if you want 4x4.

An A6 estate 3.0 diesel with 4x4 in S line trim is around £42k.

The DTD price is £33k.

Now, I am not a huge fan of Audis because they all look alike, but I am perfectly capable of looking at any car on it's merits.  Hence I drive a Fiesta.

And I have to say that you are not far from high end Skoda money there.

Yes, you need to add some options which is going to push the price up and it will cost more, but it's going to be worth more than an Octavia/Superb when the time comes to sell.

Worth a look anyway.

Avoid the S-Line / Le Mans spec  if they like their spines.

Normal suspension is a free option on the S Line.

Plus I'd suggest sticking to the basic 18" wheel option.  Same size as the Octy/Superb L&K

Certainly the A6 interior is a whole heap more upmarket than Octavia / Superb and the discounted prices bring them tantalisingly close.

I also found that in my A4 (and two colleagues A6s) that the steering / seat / pedal arrangement is not straight, the 3 are out of alignment with each other. I had no end of back problems as a result of driving my A4. Colleagues also suffered with the A6.

Although the Audi option looks good on the face of it, it's very easy to overlook the cost of getting it speced up from the options list.....to get it to Superb L&K spec will be eye wateringly expensive.
