With luck...

Cluck, cluck.

... anyway, I've been away for a week and DGW sounds as though another 4x4xJabba has or is being born ? Not sure why the coyness though ?

My views for Podwin:-

- ESP / 4x4: As Ian mentioned, I've had the ESP get confused twice on rapid compressions under hard power in 5 months / 12000 miles. Also, after the car was remapped to 220 from 165bhp, I had a few occasions where I got unpredictable wheelspin from rest where the 4x4 didn't seem to be kicking in. Both problems 'seem' to have gone away, or I am driving it differently now from the Impreza.

- Brakes: The brakes are ok and I've had no scary moments, but from my Audi experience, I know that they will fade badly if I go near a track or have too many hard stops. With cash available I would upgrade the pads and discs before doing anything else, but just for peace of mind.

- General: Just back from Scotland and the fully laden ride/handling balance was first rate on those roads.

I didn't want to upset the RS boys with the figures Mike achieved with a conservative remap on a standard engine... redface.gif

no Denis you didnt upset the vRS boys - we have known of the remap advantage for ages.....but you upset all the other 4x4 owners that paid jabba for a remap and got less... doesnt jabba do an upgrade policy for those who have had an older version of the map?;)

I'm happy, I got even more bhp per pound than Denis did :p

IIRC, its RS owners with standard engines/exhausts who get less. As Mike at Jabba confirmed, it is possible to get more power out of the 4X4 than the RS because the former's exhaust is more efficient. Nuff said.

(And no, I'm not going to rise to the bait from a 'fellow' 4x4 owner).

sorry Denis I wouldnt know.. i took my std exhaust off after running in, im not sure why the 4x4 flows better having seen Ian exhuast... unless he modified it sump style?

You haven't seen my exhaust - we spent all weekend working on your car!

(has to be said, the RS exhaust goes through a strange set of twists and turns compared with the 4x4 one, it takes a more direct route.)

but you rang me to tell me how flattened it (your exhaust ) was going round the axel / driveshaft?

its the centre boxes that need to go...

Oddly, its the "top" of the exhaust that has a flat section, but I'm sure it can be improved.

i'll get the grinder... you get your wallet...

My local dealer has checked my car and they say it is fine.

All they do is plug it in and show me a printout with a load of ticks on it.

They said it was fine last time in the same manner, until the mechanic offered to drive it home and experienced the problem for himself.

Afterall, the main control box isn't going to report a problem against itself is it?

So I was told to keep an eye on it, and bring it in again if it gets worse, again.

Thanks for all you input

Your car is clearly up to something strange, rather than the very occasional glitch that I've seen.

At the end of the day it is an 'extra' safety system so I wouldn't be that worried, especially (as you know) you can switch ESP off.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes on when we get some very wet and greasy roads again. If my glitches come up again, I'm going to find a quiet stretch and deliberately provoke it - so I could give the dealer something else to go off.

Oh, just remembered, was it JayTee who used to be on here who had a number of sensors replaced ?

Podwin.

I don't know how close you are to your dealer -- if the light comes on again(assuming it stay's on)drive to the dealership and get them to plug in without switching off -- this will in some cases reveal the fault -- as every time the car is restarted the system's do a self check - if they are happy the light doesnt come on and there wont be any fault stored.

If the fault occurs between 8am & 6pm Mon-Fri -- and your near chester - would be happy to plug it into our diagnostics -- give me a call first tho to let me know -- 01244 391829 -- direct line.

This is how we have managed to sort a few - can be a pain but sometimes the only way

Thanks for the offer!

I am not too far away from Chester so if it happens again I'll try to pop round.

Another thing it has done by the way, is for the ABS to trigger when pulling into a parking space. It was a one off, yet it was a perfect surface, and completely dry.

I am surprised how easily it does trigger while driving though, or maybe my driving needs improving.

Thanks again Dave, thats a very kind offer, expect a call sometine in the near future :-)

ABS triggering on it's own at low speed -- have had 1 similar case recently on A3 -- found a bad earth under the battery tray - once that cleared was ok -- but having said that car had recorded a fault for us to trace....for once :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all, this is my first ever registration to a forum.

This thread made me register. Why? because it happened to me today. Strong vibrations of the rear wheels while turning in the parking. I managed to get to a VW garage ( I was 150km away from home)

They disconnected the Haldex plug and they told me that now I can drive safely home even with the ESP light "on". Tomorrow I am taking it to my dealers garage but I am not very confident about their know how and experience ( there are very few 4X4 Octavia in Romania). Meanwhile while reading previous posts I realised that the problem is not easy to solve and there is a risk of replacing several parts before solving the problem.

Any suggestion / comment is more than wellcome

THX

PS All last week I was thinking about remaping - here I have a problem now that may cost me more

Hi Robi, and welcome to BriSkoda.

My Skoda dealer had only been a Skoda dealer for 6 months when I bought my car, and it felt like they didn

Hi Podwin,

So they did sort it out.

To recap my problems (as they were not exactly similar to yours):

1)Esp did not lit

2)Strong vibrations of the rear wheels while turning in the parking / cornering.

I am unable to tell you what exactly they did but here is what I have seen and I have been told:

1)They spotted something wrong on their handheld computer (in german) related to the acc sensor / related data

2) the car was lifted the Haldex ECU reconnected then tried to set some parameters related to acc sensing - but the guy was not convinced that the ECU accepted the paramater setting according to some responses displayed

3) while the car in the air "back an forth" for a few seconds

4)Test drive (about 1mile several corners max 40mph) - disapointment - the vibrations while sharp turns still there

5) BUT on final return to garage - the vibarations disapeared

6) Extended the test drive - on "power mode", sharp turns, donuts, but no more vibrations

7) Car still under survailance if the pb kicks back.

Robert
