Customer survey - new engines and 4wd being considered for vRS

Featured Replies

So i've just got off a ~10 min call with someone from Skoda doing a customer survey about my recent (ish) vRS purchase.

Lots of mundane questions about satisfaction with the car etc., but two stood out:

  • we are considering new engines for the vRS, do you think it would benefit from much less power / less power / the same power / more power / much more power
  • we are considering a 4x4 model of the vRS, would this be of interest to you?

I'm sure we all differ on the first question but on the second my response was a resounding HELL YEAH! Having previously owned an Audi A4 Quattro and a Mazda 6 MPS amongst my cars before the Octavia, I would buy an all wheel drive vRS in a heartbeat.

I also got the opportunity to feed back on the call about standard equipment (cruise should be standard imho) and a couple of other things, they asked about the comfort of the seats and I said it wouldn't be high on my list of priorities, but it should be, and the vRS has the most comfy seats of any car i've owned.

Has anyone else had this call?

It was an English guy on the call (or sounded it) but it came from a +49 number (Germany) which is odd (+49 201 185 xxxx).

P

Hell yes, sign me up to a 4x4 VRS,.....

However, I doubt they'll let the Skoda have as much power as the Golf R,.......still tempted though.

I'd quite like a more powerful diesel. That'd be fun! 3 litre bi-turbo or something... :-P

The next gen Passat is getting the new VW bi turbo diesel with 237bhp and 360flbt, only available in top spec and as a 4x4 so will be a tad heavy, imagine that in the VRS!!!

(cruise should be standard imho)

It is.   :p

Like the idea of a 4x4 vRS!

I've had a letter from my dealer today, thanking me for the business and telling me I may get a call from Skoda for a customer survey. Guessing that's what yours was.

More Power?

Mo Farah?

Yes pleeze

Branstons already taken that advertising line.

Oddly it wasn't the engine that put me off buying a VRS, but spec omissions like cruise and nav, and the cheap feeling fabric on the seats.

I can see a VRS-R with the higher power engine and 4wd would appeal to a lot of people though.

Had a call from them today, said yes to more powerful engine and 4 wheel drive : )

Would love to see it released!! Some won't tho as apparently the current vRS has the perfect power output already ;)

Got the call on Monday, gave a big thumbs up to more grunt and 4x4.

This could be right up my street come change time next year :P

With the company policy, I find it far fetched there will be any high power 4x4 estate of Octavia.

That would just mess up the intercompany segmentation.

Glad to see a company asking its customers what they would like. Bet they will be monitoring this thread also

Clarkson brought this topic up on Top Gear once about manufacturer surveys.

When you ask people would you like more power and more room in your current car the answer is yes.

So cars get bigger and more powerful until someone says this car is too big, I want a small one... You know, the way this model used to be 10 years ago.

The way government BIK rates are going through the roof over the next few years company car buyers won't be able to buy a 4x4 VRS.

Surely the company car buyers are not the majority ?

But what if Audi and VW also get improvements? MK1 vRS had 180bhp, it now has 220.

More lower and 4wd = Audi S3.

I got this too.... said yes to more power and a 4x4 revision.

Annoyances were cruise not standard and fake exhaust tips, and the main competitor car being the Leon FR...

What do you aim at with "improvements"? These are pretty much different engines over time.

Bringing the Haldex setup for the EA888 would be too close to Audi S3 by my ponderings, in a higher demand chassis. Just like Niely wrote.

The 1.8T 4x4 with 6-speed DSG is selling like crazy here in Norway (generally Octavia sales are up 69.2% compared to May last year!).

Why? Because Norway is a market for estates and hatchbacks. With winter cabins going on, combining such estate with an economic-and-less-taxed four pot engine and 4x4 is highly sought after.

So when Skoda already has the unique - seen inter-company wise - combination of DSG, 4x4 and a pretty nice petrol turbo engine rated at 180 hp, I do not see why they would ever tinker with a 2.0T of the same config. Perhaps this is what they do as questionary in the UK now to consider the market potential for such, by asking RS owners if they would be positive to a pretty OK powerful 4x4 "version". The 1.8T would land close to RS and in between to other, existing, more dull 4x4 basis at your market. [i have no clue if said 1.8T 4x4 is available at your market as of today!]

I have to agree. the 1.8T motor with DSG and 4x4 would be a lovely combination and easily tuneable anyways should you want the extra grunt? I'm sure that combination is coming to the UK in the form of the next Scout, might be wrong though??

It is a side note, but I pick up on saying about mk3 Scout will feature 2.0 TDI CR engine combined with DSG and 4x4 in our market. Not fully sure, didn't pay attention to it as I opted for 1.4 TSI myself.

But yes, the latter 1.8T engines have a VERY good configuration for "overall" consideration. Newer KKK K03 turbos should enable for an easy exhaust and tune for 220hp

Unfortunately a bit late in asking about the Fabia MK3.

May be they should as the questions  after say 2 years after launch of product.

Feel sure, if they had done that with Fabia 1 to Fabia 2 ,we would have had a very different car than what turned up in mk2 guise. With more options and not forced fixed e.g. dsg no manual, high output hot petrol and high out put diesel.

Think Skoda UK are reading and taking some note of comments from this website.(we certainly know that they are reading it re issues with Fabia mk2.)

A member posted a good survey poll back in April relating to the proposed FABIA MK3 (or rather not proposed vrs mk3) willias400 thread "fabia vrs mk3 if they made one....."

Some very good constructive design thoughts-I wonder how many will be used on the impending new model. Probably a little to late now as build has commenced no doubt.
