Top ten things that go wrong with Octavia RS?

Featured Replies

What are the most common faults people have experienced with the Octavia RS?

Including any kind of rattles, mechanical faults etc.

And how did you get around them?

Coil Packs - Take it back to the dealers

Intermittent loss of boost - back to dealers

Rattle on startup - back to dealers

Water pours into boot and speakers from VRS hatch spoiler - buy an estate.

Fraying seats (white mesh bits) - got mine replaced under warranty, but after warranty runs out likely to be stuffed.

Squeaky/groaning/screeching brakes in reverse - Live with it :(

Can agree on seats and intermittant boost loss.

I think the MAF can be suspect though i haven't suffered that myself. (well i mean my vRS hasn't)

Indicators stop working so the hazard warning switch needs replacing.

Had the same problem on my old Mk4 golf gti Turbo thats how i knew what the problem was.

ive got a spoiler on the top of the boot, might just be coinsidence but i dont get water pouring in.

Oh,and the seats again.Dirty and frayed mesh.Haven't found a product to solve it yet :thumbdwn:

In 12 months I have had-

New high level brake light (thought it was rattling, but was boot trim)

New starter motor

New driver's seat belt

New autochanger

New coil packs

New secondary air pump

New cam chain & tensioner

New set of hydraulic lifters

Today is the last day of warranty!!!!!!!

Boot trim still rattles.

Most things then? That's bad luck on a standard motor, many of the above are items I would expect to see go bang on a highly modified car, so not yours then Des?

As for problems I've had in order of occurance:

rear screen wash jet pipe popping off

stress crack in front screen

frayed seat fabric

slipping clutch

starter motor

coil pack failure

(and because of the above, almost certainly an expired catalyst)

Hey you guys are scaring me.....

I've booked a black RS and it's on the way. Pick up date is 5th sep.But with so many problems reported I think it'll be a bright idea to pick up some problemless japanese car.....

Squeaky/groaning/screeching brakes in reverse - Live with it :(

Or go to the dealer and have balance weights put on the rear calipers.

In my two years of ownership I've had...

Indicator switch

Rear rubbing strip (faded to white)

Clutch

Faulty Door Lock controller (the Passenger door lock dead-bolt kicked in and took the dealership 3 days to open - they almost took a saw to it)

All replaced under warranty :D

Warranty is now up to I've Jabba'ed it... :D

Another one all seem to have missed

it's low .......so avoid all speed bumps...... sump and gearbox can be expensive

Funnily enough that's just what I did (Swapped mine for a Honda :D )

The problems I had within the first 4 months were:

1. Broke down due to electrical fault.

2. 2 sets of warped / contaminated front disks.

3. Wobbling xenons.

4. Left xenon control unit failed.

5. Groaning rear brakes when reversing.

6. Ashtray destroyed itself one day

7. Constant back ache since I started driving it.

However - there are several on our fleet that have been hammered for 3 years and never had a problem.

They are a fantastic car......for the money (the Honda was

A problemless Japanese car - What Japanese car offers you so much space, so much pace and is available in hatchback form, for Octavia vRS money? I don't think there is anything. That's why I stuck with the Octavia vRS. The only Japanese car the springs to mind is the Civic Type R, but that is a smaller car. The Accord is now only a Type S (only a saloon and not as quick).

In almost a year............cd changer faulty. That's it, and mine is modified and is driven fairly hard :D:D:D

Or go to the dealer and have balance weights put on the rear calipers.

I suggested that but they didn't do it :( TADTS is pretty much what I got out of them.

Don't get me started on my now departed Honda Civic:

In just under two years I had a new gearbox (never properly fixed), new shock absorber (after it burst) and the drivers door re-aligned after it dropped.

Jap cars are not exempt from problems and in my experience the Honda dealer network is rubbish at best. The car had to go back FIVE times before they'd recognise the problem with the gearbox and twice for the shock.

I wouldnt buy a Skoda again.

Ive had replaced:

Front Anti Roll Bar

Handbrake assembely

ECU

Pollen filter

AC Regassed

Paint defects

Creaky Suspension

Brakes Squealing

Inconsistent Acceleration

Temperature Sender Unit

Blown Door speaker

And much more.
