Is it just me or has anyone else noticed...

...that the inside of their windscreen gets dirty very quickly?

vRS Tdi Combi.

I don't smoke, nor do any of my passengers but I seem to find myself cleaning a film of the inside of the screen once every week to 10 days.

Some may argue that's probably good practice but I never needed to do it that often with any of my previous cars.

I don't have the fresh air vents open, haven't had much need to use the aircon but I do have the sunroof open quite a bit.

Not a major issue, just seems a bit odd, any thoughts?

Mine is the same, also noticed my windscreen is attracting splatted bugs like never before... must be the time of year? Really annoying when I am currently being so anal about keeping it shiny!

Mine is the same. I hate dirty windscreens.

Mine too. Maybe the air con filter is rubbish.

I've not noticed this. Maybe I am not driving enough ;-)

Yep, very! Glad it's not just me. In fact I've cleaned it at the start of a 3 hour journey and by the end of the journey it was just as bad. Even the wife commented on it!

Mine too. But not really any worse than the mk2 I had.

I've not noticed this, then again my glasses are always filthy so prob would not notice.

well on a brighter note at least yours hasn't got a million scratches on the outside of a mahoooooooooosive piece of wood it it

never had a car whats jinxed but mine is ,,,,,,,,,so wish it would get nicked and burnt to a crisp

but to the question are you using the aircon or just on auto?,,,,,

Both mine were the same, as were all the hire cars.

Yup, noticed this myself. I give it a good clean with auto glym glass polish every other week but it still needs cleaning in between. My windows are always shut and climate control is always on.

I'm sure someone told me that it's solvents etc leaching out of the interior trim when the car heats up in the sun and being deposited on the windows.

This is correct, worse when the car is new.

Blimey, learn something new every day!

Yep, should get better as the car ages.

Saw this yesterday when starting the car in a garage with windows that allowed the sun to shine only on the lower part of the front window on the car.

Looked like a exhaustcloud boomed out of the airvents in the front, can't see it in normal light though.

I've had mine nearly a year, only cleaned the glass on the inside a couple of times, so i'd say I've not noticed this TBH. Is the pollen filter fitted correctly?

Not noticed this either on the vRS Octy or the Monte Carlo.

I did have to clean it after killing an insect on the inside of the windscreen which was "bugging" the life out of me and refusing to exit the car via the open window..

It's the level of VOC's (volitile organic compound) that VW group cars have in their interiors - i.e. "new car smell" As they leech out - sunlight hits interior -> interior emits fumes -> fumes cause that "film" on the inside of windows - typically the front window is the worst for it due to the large expanse of plastic directly below it. There was actually a study done in the US on this exact phenomenon, and VAG is one of the worst manufacturers for it.

Actual link to study below, and a pick of 10 best and 10 worst cars for this occourence.

Thank you everybody for the responses, at list I know it's 'normal', well sort of.

If it improves with age, great, should coincide with me chopping it in for another new one so we can start all over again, hey ho!

I had to clean my windscreen every week for maybe the first month or so.  Maybe only needed it once since then and now (11 months old now) so it will get better with age.
