Silver Lower Bumper Paint Code/Colour

Featured Replies

Hi

Just bought a used Yeti and washed it for the first time today. Thankfully few scuffs or serious chips but there is a scuff on the silver lower front grill trim. I would like to touch this in a bit but don't know what colour it is to order the paint. I thought it might be brilliant silver but having looked at some pics of brilliant silver Yetis I'm not 100% sure it is.

Does anyone know what colour silver this lower grill surround is?

Cheers

Try VW Reflex silver?

I did wonder about reflex silver too but I need to be sure as it's a couple of scuffs right down to the yellow plastic and if it's not right it will show up.

Does anyone have a brilliant silver Yeti who can confirm if the trim is the same colour?

Sorry, what I mean is does anyone have a brilliant silver Yeti who can confirm if the lower grill trim is the same colour as their car paint colour?

Someone has told me today that it's not painted so no paint exists. However, where mine is scuffed you can see yellow plastic underneath so not sure this is right. Thoughts?

Is it a gelcoat

Is it a gelcoat

Anyway of touching up a gelcoat?

It can be done, but you would need to know what gel coat they have used, as there are many types. Then you would need to dye it the right colour.

Hmmm.... Sounds like a bit of an arse. It's only about an inch long scuff so I think that a touch up would hide it enough - but that gets me back to my original problem of exactly what colour it is...

You could take it off and take it into Homebase's paint matching section...

Can't help with exact paint code, but used on mine a metallic silver permanent marker.

Color not perfectly matching but it does the work for me. Completely covered the black bumper's plastic. Don't remember seeing yellow plastic, as mine was deeply scratched. I assume it may be a base / bonder paint coat for the silver layer.

Forgot about it until now - coming upon this thread.

I used a touch up silver paint that I bought off eBay to touch up small marks on alloy wheels. With careful paint application followed by careful very fine sanding and then careful T-Cut polishing you should find that you won't notice any small differences in paint colour. The operative word being 'careful' of course...

Thanks guys. Great tips. I really like the alloy wheel touch up suggestion and will have a look into this. Otherwise I think it will be a trip to Halfrauds and see if they'll let me take a load of silver touch up pens out to the car park to try and match the lids to the bumper!

It took me two weeks since buying the car to notice the scrape but now I see it all the time!

Thanks again guys

Just a quick note to say a big thank you to rafi_arch for his suggestion as it worked a treat. Bought a silver paint marker off eBay for a quid and filled in the scratches. Being a pen it was very accurate so just touched the areas with no silver on at all. From more than a couple of feet away you can't see it even if you know where it is. Any closer you can see it but it's still very subtle and only a very slightly different shade plus by now you're on your hands and knees anyway.
