another turbo whistle :-(

Featured Replies

My car is mapped and sounds precisely the same! I thought the turbo would blow but been like this for 3 months now and still going

That being said it is a KKK unit and i've heard mixed reports.... but so far so good

Im prepared though, spare turbo, oil feed and gaskets on standby incase it goes pop!

Yeah I've heard the kkk ones are crap but dont know much about the fabias as it's the wifes. Skoda want £1253.23 for a new unit all in with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty but if it goes I'm tempted to get a different turbo. Are there any other direct replacements as its an se so I want to stay as standard as possible so not really wanting hybrid etc, hers isn't mapped by the way.

what year is your fabia?

best pm xman750 here he can advise you best on turbo's a hybrid unit is best would cost less than half of what skoda quoted you plus will be much more reliable

and im sure other member will be on shortly to help out

Just been looking at his stuff on ebay :-) its a 2007 se with blt engine. Thanks for the advice jay29

Mine does the same albeit nowhere near as loud and only when cold.

Tried getting it through warranty but engineer said it's not bad enough to change and it drives fine.

Got 9 months warranty left so will try again in 6 months!

yeah mate mine is also a BLT, unfortunately for us because of different styles of manifold fitting from ASZ to BLT engine we would require some modification to allow a turbo other than a BLT KKK turbo to fit, it's either that or 1k plus from skoda themselves... but once xman gets back to you then you will know the options available

That said, if your turbo is like mine it just whistles? I dnt get any extra smoke or loss of power im waiting for it to go but it may surprise me and last a long time to come....

If its not broke dont fix it ;)

Saying that is it worth checking over (not sure how to)

Or

Run it till it goes pop then wind up replacing intercooler and stripping things to clear shrapnel that could find itself anywhere! I'm over 100k on original turbo as far as I'm aware...

Can anyone with experience with turbos identify if the sound Tony and myself are getting is a tell tale sign of Turbo on its way out??

Just had a call from the wife and it blew on the way to work. Needless to say she's not happy.

...and it's ALL YOUR FAULT!

Amirite?

Mine went bang last week in a large fashion, didn't sound half as bad as that clip either. Got A cr turbo's hybrid, suposed to be good for 200bhp they claim. mine is the asz so was stuck for choice with the manifold being on turbo. Got it all on and it keeps blowing pipes off that's before a remap :-( now gotta get hard pipes and fmic then finally remap.

False alarm jay. She just blew one of tge hoses off :-) I guess is wasn't clipped back in properly.

It lives on! B-)

Sorry guess I should have read the whole thread. I was gonna say it sounds egr releated but glad you sorted it.

Sounds like Tony is saying its terminal but even then until its actually totally failed its not is it ? It wasn't actually causing any issues with boost etc?

Play, how much play exactly ? Photos of blade damage ?

Mines been like this since well before 100K (as far as I can recall, probably since 80-90K at least)

I'm 114K but I do have a spare Garrett (no blade damage and I think the play is within tolerances) which is handy insurance policy, provided it doesn't spit itself up throughout the whole engine

Tonys Mrs car only blowing the pipes off is good news for you by the way

The car has been running (and still is) perfectly. No loss of power, possibly a little more black smoke but still pulls like mad. Just has the whistle sound. Just dont want to risk trashing the entire engine on something I know is gonna go pop one day, I just dont know when and don't see the point in risking it for the sake of a few hundred quid. Plus the wife would kill me.

I know the feeling all to well Tony

I've sourced a Garrett GT1749A albeit used off an Audi a3 the blade and shaft in good nick and have bought all the gaskets from darkside (their website is cheaper than their eBay store) I'm just waiting on oil feed pipe..

Will take it I'm within the next two weeks and I will wack up photos of my findings

Go for a garrett no more kkk turbo for me

I did hear the kkk Turbo spools a bit quicker than the garrett though not sure if this is true?

Might go for the same gaskets then mate :-) gonna put a kkk back on it and then hybrid the current one I think. Look forward to seeing the pics.

I don't know if any companies hybrid the kkk to be honest I did ask around at one point

If you find any that do please let me know

In terms of gaskets there's a few needed

Does anyone know if these gaskets require a seal?

Think I best be looking for a new turbo as mine sounds like a police siren and whistles like crazy....
