opinions on rapid s (75)1.2 mpi

Featured Replies

Hi, I have the opportunity to get a rapid s 1.2 mpi for 130/month with 1k deposit over 42 months. I was wondering if the engine is that bad as all the sites say to avoid it but the tsi is quite a bit more for monthly payments (trying to keep things as cheap as possible).

Also, if I bought an s would I just be wishing that I had bought an se?

1.2 TSI (86)ps is cheaper than the (105)ps. You will be wishing. Only my thoughts. Have you asked what the extra payments would be

From the 86 to the 105, I was thinking the 1.2 mpi to 1.2tsi. Not sure on what extra payments would be

Do you have a car to trade in? Can get the 1.2TSI SE for £125 a month if you have a car to trade in (covers the £3k deposit)

Yeah, its a 2003 fabia sdifrom what I understand the 3k wouldn't cover the discount and is taken from the list price. Where hvw you seen this deal?

It really depends on how you drive and what the cost difference is between the cars, you'd have to ask your dealer about that.... I'd say, take a (good, long, typical journey for you) test drive of both cars, look at the trip computer MPG, take 10% off that figure to be safe, and work out the difference in petrol cost over your usual annual mileage, also look at the difference in VED cost for both engines (the 1.2 mpi is a higher band), work that out over the loan term and the tsi might not be quite so expensive as you think?

If you get an SE the engines start from a 1.2 TSI 86 ps no MPI. If you add extras to a S you will be paying more than an SE

Due to unfortunate circumstances with my TSI, I've been given a 1.2MPI Rapid as a courtesy car. It's not too bad a bad lump overall, but there a few points to consider.

FIrst of all, whilst it's the cheapest of all the engines, it will cost you some £95 more per year to tax than the 86PS 1.2TSI, and will offer slightly poorer fuel economy.

I expected it to be gutless too, but it really does haul the Rapid around OK and could easily be worse at climbing hills as you might otherwise expect. The downside is that it's a bit of a rough old lump and screams all through the rev range and it will sit quite high cruising at 60/70mph, to the extent that it does get rather intrusive and annoying.

I don't really get why anybody would buy the car with the MPI when for a marginally bigger outlay you can enjoy the excellent and far superior TSI engine.

The lookers deal is the same: http://www.lookers.co.uk/skoda/offers/new-car-offers/skoda-rapid/

It's only the sport which already has the discount applied in those examples.

That Simpsons offer is a bit contradicting, it says

Grab yourself an extra £3000 Part Exchange Allowance against any new SKODA Rapid hatchback.

The word there is any

Then goes on to say....

"There's no hitches, no small print, no 'subject to this' and 'subject to that' ... it's just a simply great offer."

Then at the bottom it says...

"NB Offer excludes 'Special' and 'Limited' Edition models"

So you decide what they mean is part of the offer. I may even try them out myself, although I know I can source an Elegance for around £13,300 ish that's with extra paint option and spare wheel.

If you can only stretch to a base model with the worse engine in the line up I'd personally buy a used car.

A one or two year old Fabia mk2 would be cheaper, have a better spec/engine and similar boot space.

Just my opinion.

and similar boot space.

I assume you mean a Mk2 Fabia Estate :)

Yes, thought I wrote that but turns out I didn't... :)

Smart like a fox.

When we bought our Octavia combi in 2012, it was about 6 months old with 3000 miles and we got it for about the same price as a new Octy base spec hatchback, plus ours is the SE so it has Amundsen with satnav, 17" alloys, heated mirrors. Got much more for our money and the only downside really was 6 months less warranty, but you can extend that of course if you plan to keep the car for a while.

I bought a 2013 rapid 1.2 tsi (105) elegance with 14,000miles and it's first service was done. For under £9700... I'm sure there would be a suitable finance deal out there over 60months that would bring your monthly payment down... Have a look on auto trader as that's where I found mine and it was from a skoda retailer!

I found my 1.4 TSI DSG for the same price with 14 k miles back in March.

TSI engine is sublime and so silent 1.2 or 1.4 ;<)
