200-220bhp best turbo?

Featured Replies

Must admit the gtb2260vk is showing no disadvantage compared to the gtb1756vk. Currently mapping 2 and was shocked how well they boost up.

Suspect I need my VNT fine tuning.....  How you fixed Friday lol as I am passing up the M6 :D

Lol I'm only about 20 minutes from junction 21.

Are you limited by the available mappers on the gtb turbos?

To be honest I find the gtb's easier to map than some hybrids.

Seriously would be up for it, but don't know how you fixed.  I'd be passing early to mid afternoon.  I assume it would involve the usual VCDS logs and then monitoring EMP whilst adjusting actuator (which in itself is a pain in the ass job to do.....)

I might leave it for my mate to do for me - as long as I keep an eye on the EMP/boost when making adjustments

That's interesting to know. I was thinking more along the lines of the more mainstream tuners like shark/ revo. I'm not sure if they've had much experience with these setups.

Nice to give you an advantage over them :)

Had them all now:

1749vc was horrid to drive and for mapping

1756vk awesome setup just lacked the top end pull after 4k

2260vk spools up just as good as the 1756vk pulls hard all the way to 5k, Turbo of choice for me, feels better to drive than the 1756 and under less strain

All setups mapped by Faboka

I would even pick the 2260vk on standard nozzles over the 1756vk just for extra pull at top end rpm (but make sure you have a 3" downpipe)

Who do people use to map these in the South East?

The likes of Darkside, Faboka all seem to be "oop North".

Or does Faboka do day trips? :D

Emphasis is on smoke free, non-smog making.

Or you ask him for the ECU flashing equipment, and do it all over email  ;)

Just had mine on the rollers today, no cat, a cone k&n and egr delete, Garrett 130 rebuilt turbo and fabooka remap. 186bhp and 306lb and no smoke. Maybe as mine is a 180,000 mile engine it has less friction or maybe its the 5 speed box having less drag than the 6 speed but however you look at it fabooka obviously knows his stuff

I'm from Kent and used faboka to map my car all done via email, I'd choose faboka everytime to map my car too! You know what you're getting and you know it's completely custom to suit your car :)

The turbo dynamics pd130 hybrid (stage 2 md446) I have is pretty good and is a safe clean 197bhp.

There is a slightly newer version available now mdx446 which has a billet compressor wheel which may be suitable for a higher tune.

Let me know if you want a test of my car Richard.

I'm thinking of getting a switchable tuning system once I fit the pd150 hybrid, so I can keep this map, but have a higher powered map too, so can have some real comparisons :)

The Turbo Dynamics MDX446 is the stage 2 hybrid PD150 turbo I'm having fitted and mapped this month.

AP Automotive (Shark Dealer) are mapping it for me as I don't want to travel too far.

Will post results up once all done :)

The pd150 is the mdx376. The mdx446 is still a pd130. It's the same as mine but has the billet compressor wheel so can handle some more power :)

I have been looking at this as well... have considered both the 1756 and 2260. I think, from memory and I'm sure someone will probably correct me, that the 2260 requires a few more bits and pieces than the 1756 to get fitted. I was angling on the 1756 due to cost consideration but I haven't got a price from xman on the 2260 yet.

A billet impeller is actually not as strong as an OEM type impeller, they are just easy to manufacture using a CNC machine in small batches and are considered 'good enough' rather than superior to OEM.

MY bad Charlie your correct, I should maybe have maybe gone for a gtb turbo myself, but this hybrids been sat here for ages now. And the gtb turbos were a little unknown then.

My hybrid is a MD376.

No, they are the same as a fitment, but the 2260 needs injectors to get over 230bhp.

I believe they are usually just lighter to aid quicker spooling.

So are popular with bigger turbos.

Is this another BossFox project then?

Ok thanks, that's quite interesting. I would have thought being machined from one piece would result in it being stronger. If the marketing people are to be believed, the billet compressor wheel is 20% lighter than standard so will spool faster

It doesnt Rich, mine produce 234bhp on standard injectors and very little smoke mate.

Chers Joel,

I was just going by what Darkside told me today.

At some point you will reach the limit of the injectors, they claim 230 as it's a round number I guess.

Have you done your head bolts and maf sensor as they suggest?

Kind of.
