200-220bhp best turbo?

Featured Replies

Kind of.

Brilliant I've been getting bored in the evenings as there's not much to read now on the projects :)

Ok thanks, that's quite interesting. I would have thought being machined from one piece would result in it being stronger. If the marketing people are to be believed, the billet compressor wheel is 20% lighter than standard so will spool faster

Billet impellers are lighter because OEM type impellers are made using a gigantic 100 ton class hydraulic press which combines vacuum casting and forging, this is why they're stronger because they're denser, it's very similar to the way that gas turbine and jet engine blades are manufactured. Machines like that are VERY expensive to own and run and therefore don't do small batch work.

I would even pick the 2260vk on standard nozzles over the 1756vk just for extra pull at top end rpm (but make sure you have a 3" downpipe)

I don't think me and a 2260 are meant to be....those turbos are cursed! Hoping to have better luck with this 1756. The extra pull at the top end doesn't really bother me as I don't really like to rev the car high. Hoping to have the limiter set to 5,000rpm as opposed to 5,500rpm what it is now which is far to high.

Tricky choice IMO.

They sounds quite similar down low and the 2260 costs the same as the 1756.

Problem is, it encourages you to upgrade and push everything that bit harder! :D

Are you looking at going for a Darkside turbo or Xman turbo?

Xmans 2260 is £150 dearer than the 1756 IIRC, not that it's a massive amount anyway :)

I phoned up Darkside today.

I'm sure on their site the prices are the same.  Could be wrong, but that's what it looked like.

The 2260 with supporting mods is heading towards £4,000 in parts alone... so not a huge difference indeed. :peek:

Got to remember any PD150 hybrid is flat ******* out running the boost to get over the magical 200bhp,a GTB is a bigger series of turbos so can handle the boost required with ease.

GTB1756 is awesome fast road set up :)

Complete turbo set up from X-Man is just over £600,then you just need to modify your dp and alter some boost pipes.

The difference in delivery and torque on the road is massive compared to a PD150 hybrid, and as a bonus its cheaper too!!!!

Your running the fancy tubular Darkside manifold?

Can't really compare a bargain GTB on a cast manifold to a mega expensive Darkside kit!

GTB2260VK welded to oem manifold is much less than a grand from Xman

4 bar map sensor

Custom work to the downpipe to mate to the turbo.

FMIC

PD160 intake or custom intake pipe or cheap as chips oem Honda s2000 cone filter.

Remap

= Done. Probably around £1700-1800.

Let me see if I can post a boost log of a GTB2260VK mated to a AWX manifold (its in a leon so fits). :)

Also you need a 3 inch down pipe for the 2260, not 2.5

Plus the injectors as you say

Also you can get away with standard clutch and DMF on a 1756, but no way a 2260.

Also LSD would be pretty essential with a 2260 with uprated injectors

Based on the above a 2260 would cost £3000 or so more than a 1756!

Their 1756 comes in at about £1900 fitted and mapped and their 2260 kit with manifold is around £2500 supplied. That was the last time I looked anyhow :)

GTB2260VK with AWX manifold fitted in a Leon Cupra4. Stock 4wd downpipe tweaked to fit, 4bar MAP and FIRAD +80.

1.7bar at 2100rpm
2bar at 2400rpm
2.3bar at 2750rpm

Can't remember which dp you have Joe?

But mines Miltek, with GTB flange welded on,and they are not 2.5inch until after the flexi on dp.

Do people with 3 inch dp's then run a 3 inch full exhaust system? :)

Chers Joel,

I was just going by what Darkside told me today.

At some point you will reach the limit of the injectors, they claim 230 as it's a round number I guess.

Have you done your head bolts and maf sensor as they suggest?

Pd150 headbolts and bigger maf sensor fitted mate.

I would suggest contacting dirty torque and have a chat with Dean. See what he tells you compared to other companies. May save a good few pennies while Not compromising on workmanship too Rich.

Fitted in a Leon Cupra4. Stock 4wd downpipe tweaked to fit, 4bar MAP and FIRAD +80.

Have you been in that? :)

Hows the smoke?

Mines the Darkside custom Dp mated onto a Milltec. It's 3 inch I think not 2.5 as I said.

How do you manage setting up the injectors running smoke free?!

Nope not even seen the car, downside of doing maps over email :(

Owner is reporting very little smoke if any. I do think the stock downpipe is limiting this setup but it shows if your not reaching for the skys that it can be done with very little work.

Oh its also still got the stock clutch. Place your bets how long will it last :)

Yes, I was including clutch, maf sensor, head bolts, FMIC and pipework on top.

As well as the full kit with the manifold and downpipe.

Anything over a remap and I'd want a wavetrac diff too.  But that's a personal thing so not included in the cost estimate.

Yeah clutch and head bolts are needed. Forgot about them. MAF sensor isn't.

Agree with the Diff. Kev's GTB1756 was ace.

You can do it on the cheap though. No need to fancy FMIC and manifolds.

But what is it all going in Richard? That's the real question here.

I can sell you another pastywagon if you like.

Low mileage, well maintained, black ;)

I'm sure I saw a post saying he had sent a pm in a Fabia for sale thread!
