Lacquer peeling off

Featured Replies

I bought a new Octavia in November 2010.  After about a year a small area of lacquer lifted off the paint on the bonnet.  This was fixed under warranty with no quibbling on the basis that it was a manufacturing fault.  A couple of months ago, a larger area of lacquer (about 10mm by 20mm) on the front wing peeled off.  Skoda have turned down this claim as the 3 year paintwork warranty period has expired.  Neither will they agree to a "goodwill gesture" by making any contribution to the repair cost despite the car's history of the previous identical problem.

Even if there'd been damage from a stone chip the lacquer shouldn't peel away like it has.

Any thoughts on how to respond would be welcome.

Would it be reasonable to pursue a claim under the Sale Of Goods act citing the durability issue of an item?  The car is only about 6 months out of warranty anyway and has less than 28K on the clock.

The annoying thing is that 2 days ago I took delivery of a new Octavia which was ordered long before discovering the paintwork problem.  I wish I'd known then what I know now!!

You could try but I would think that you may have to prove you have looked after it as recommended.

If you have a stone chip then water can get underneath and it can peel off.

It has less chance if you treat the chip.

Look into getting a smart repair done.
