I've got a 2012 octavia diesel 66000 miles. It's used about a litre of water in about 5 days it's been on the ramp when it's hot and dry as a bone. I seen a metal pipe coming of the bottom of the expansion tank with a black plastic screw cap which wasn't tight could this be the problem or not any help would be great thanks

not sure about the newer engines, but my 2.0 fsi had a water housing which leaked on the end of the block next to the battery box, cost about £15 in parts to replace and/or it is rad.

either way.. 2012 = still in warranty so to the dealership?

I suspect the mileage rules out the warranty.

Topic moved to octavia section and merged with duplicate.

I suspect the metal pipe under the tank is part of the air con and the plastic bit is the charging port cover.

Is there any "mayonnaise" under the oil filler cap?

Have you carefully checked the oil level. If its rising, then it could be the head gasket leaking.

Is the water system pressure cap OK?

Have you had the cooling system pressure tested? If its an external leak, that should pin point it.

Keep the system topped up. Antifreeze leaking is often easier to spot than plain water. You also need the anti corrosion additives it contains.

A leak from the water pump, either from the spindle or the seating in the block, will often not show any signs of damp, as the water collects in cam belt housing and evaporates off due to the heat of the block.  It's important to rule this out, as cam belt contamination can result in premature failure of the belt.  Whip the covers off and inspect, especially the belt and around the crank pulley area.
