Just bought Superb and help please

Featured Replies

Hi all. Got tired of my Vrs tdi DSG Octavia and have just bought a 2011 Superb 170 estate Elegance (manual). I found the Octavia had a noisey, poor ride and just couldn't get on with the DSG mated to a diesel.

Looking forward to getting the Superb next week but was just wondering if anyone has actually SUCCESSFULLY put LED or white replacement bulbs in the running lights to give a crisper look. I don't want to be messing around with resistors or lamp holders that will melt. If I can't do it easily I won't bother.

Also, will any standard size Brolly fit in the holder and how does it dry?

Is dmf failure common? Hope not.

Sorry to bombard you with all the questions. Thanks people :)

Hi Sliceman,

Can't comment on the LED replacement - would never try something so complicated myself.

Also, don't know what DMF failure is ....... thankfully.

However, from another thread on this forum : "What I discover/didn't know about the car"

14) Umbrella slot on rear (left) passenger door have drainage for wet umbrella. Umbrella is also automatic that does open and closing. Self charging when you retract the umbrella.

Hope this helps. TBH I totally forgot about the brolley in the door - never used it !!

LED are an easy swap just take the old bulbs out and put the new ones in.... (Have to be Canbus though). I got these... http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/canbus-382-p21w-27-white-smd-led-error-free-bulbs/ Below are a couple of pics of them on my own car.

Brolly size of the OEM one is approx 28cm long by 6cm wide. Mine didn't come with the OEM umbrella so i just bought one from Next which was the same dimensions. Cost me £10. It dries by way of a drain hole at the end of the compartment in the door that it's stored in.

I don't know too much about the DMF.... Other than the wife's Fabia vRS had one fail at around 40k (Obviously on the PD130 engine). From what i see online it isn't just a VAG issue and the issue of failing DMFs is discussed by owners of many marques.

Dmf's are like a spring loaded clutch plate, they have a finite life depending on use

I have installed the same LED`s as WaveyDavey.

Work and look great.

The umbrella also has a special coating which stops it going mouldy.

Cheers guys, help much appreciated.

Dave, those LEDs look terrific. My vehicle is a 2011 and I read that year is a nuisance for flagging up 'bulb failures' ? think I may give yours a try though.

Mine is a MY11 spec car and I have no issues with these bulbs. I know others who have them in 12plate cars and again no issues.

Cheers

I have no probs with the bulbs Dave has recommended on mine either

I have no probs with the cree ones from the same seller in my 12-plate.

Got the same bulbs as Dave too. 5 months on still look great.

Great stuff. Gonna have to do then chaps. I take it none of you had to bother with adding extra resistors then either? Thanks all :)

Nope, worked straight from the box.

I fitted the same style of bulbs to my combo also, they lasted about 15K miles before they went a horrible colour so I replaced them with CREE Led’s, they are not cheap but look so much better IMO (still going strong 20K miles later when I sold the car)

What colour did they go? That cheapy boy-racer blue you often see on those aftermarket led strips?

No they started to go a dim white (almost yellow) rather than the crisp white they started out as
