I am thinking of changing the pollen filter in my Superb Estate as the previous owner was a smoker. The use of an Aromatek machine has made a huge difference, but I understand that changing the pollen filter is also recommended for getting rid of smells. My question is which one to buy? I looked on eBay and the prices vary from £4.50 for one of these:

I understand that an OE filter is going to cost more, but is there any real difference in the quality?

Er I think there has been a misprint on the second, or just a rip off, I get carbon ones and pay around 8/12 look at this page you will see many, ring your dealer, ask them how much they are and for carbon one, better filtration, but 41 quid is ridiculous ,spray with an air freshener before you put it back in , it will help to remove the smoky smell  

For the pollen filter, just get the one with activated carbon. Supposedly better for filtering air. Partnumber is 1K1819653B.

 

Anything from Bosch, Mannfilter or Mahle will be just fine. 41 UKP is a bit steep though...I would prefer to buy 2 cheapo filters and change them often, to buying 1 expensive one and using it twice as long. I also often remove the pollenfilter and vacuum out the particles/larger bits.

 

If you still have issues with the sigarettesmoke, try using the 1Z airco cleaner. Basically you spray it into your vents, and it should clean (some) of the ducts including the housing where lots of bad smells seem to come from. You get a very VERY strong cleaning alcohol-like smell for a few days, and it will linger for a few weeks.

Head over to eurocarparts.com or carparts4less.co.uk and choose the Hengst, Bosch or Mann pollen filter.  Currently they are £6.77 to £10.32 range (delivered).

Eurocarparts gets a thumbs up from me.

I just Cellotape a " Vanilla Smelling Magic Tree " to the Side of the Pollen filtre, loverly smell
