Any Ideas How Much Electickery A Yeti Uses When Parked?

Featured Replies

I bought an l.e.d plug in meter to use in the caravan, I plugged it in the car to show the Lioness,

how it worked and left it there. We drove to Paignton and back the following morning and I noticed

14.2v on the display and 12.8v later when we parked but 24 hours later it was showing 12v.

So what draws power when the Yeti is parked I have an Elegance with a radio, no sat nav.

Radio memory, clock memory, alarm system, central locking ECU and possibly more.

The battery conservation appears very good on the Yeti as mine is often parked up for four plus weeks whilst away and it starts on the first sign of the key! :) The alarm will be powered as will a couple of other sensors ie the rain sensor if so equipped (so it can close the windows and sunroof if need be). Also, the obvious stuff like Time setting also of course.

Radio, alarm, interior lights for a short time are the greatest "users"

You want to own a 320 Merc, my father is on his 5th or maybe 6th 120ah battery at £150 a time. Only yesterday, with a relatively new battery, we could not start her up after just 3 days standing.

That must be some current draw he's got somewhere, Don!!

Hasn't left the boot light on has he?

Those devices are not accurate or stable. Between three friends who bought them we found they all differed considerably, as much as 1.5V! They (and the car battery) are also affected by heat.

We concluded that they have limited use as a battery monitor but shouldn't be relied on.

If its the type that plug into the cigarette lighter socket from eBay for around £3 that a few of us on here seem to have bought, I agree

Agreed. Mine shows a different voltage when put in the 2 outlets.

One of these days I'll fit my old Smiths analogue dial.

The 320's are know to be battery eaters due to their electronics, my neighbour has the 320 diesel and alongside his garage I can see 2 dead batteries. I helped him in with a new one about 3 weeks ago.

That's crazy!

I bought one of these LED voltage meters recently and wondered about the accuracy. When I checked my Octavia's battery voltage with one this morning it read 12.2V. So I decided to top up the charge with a CTEK battery charger and the battery was fully charged within an hour or so.

The LED voltage display probably draws more current than the quiescent current for the car. For the Yeti, the rule of thumb is a voltage of 12.4v after a week, given no extra drain and a fully charged battery in good condition. It should be noted that voltage alone is not a good indicator of battery condition.
