Had to laugh at the Scooby owner calling Evos "expensive and troublesome" - pots and kettles spring to mind :D

Dont forget she'll be wearing a burberry bikini if she likes Scoobies ;)

Evos are expensive?? They cost the same Scoobies here, and they're both pretty cheap, and this is brand new I'm talking about. They cost the same as a Mini Cooper S Works...now the MCSW for the car that it is is waaayyy too expensive, even if it justifies the name.

I would never spend the same money I could spend on an Impreza STi or Evo 8 for an MCSW.

You can get a Scooby here for around

Is it just me or does anyone else have the same image of Scoobies as driven by aggressive ch@vs who must have made the money to buy them by dishonest means? And yet I know there's loads of ex-Scooby owners on here who I like and aren't like that at all - yet I can't shake that image off.

you can ?!! euro import WRX ?

of corse not. They sell non rally imitation imprezas as well, Just as you can buy a Mitsubishi Lancer with a 1.6 for 11k

Yep, along with Lancer Evo's. Either dishonest means or IT consultants

what do you mean 'of course not'

You can get GX's for under 13.5k new, so I guessed Stu wasnt talking about that - and I kind of got the impression this thread wasnt about the NA versions...

OK - so is a 2l WRX Euro import a good one? Would it make mincemeat of my Octavia? Or do I need another 10k for that?

Exactly Ben!!

You need to add a few

its a WRX - 225bhp, 0-60 in junst under 6 seconds.

Can be easily taken to 280 or so with a couple of mods and a remap

here was my dyno from the last scoob I had before getting the fabia:

I dont know what your Octavia is so cant answer the Q sorry !

As I've said before I've always been a scooby fan came this close *puts fingers up to the screen* to buying one. But I never did, they just cost too much to run for my likely.

It's a shame that so many tw@ts drive them now, but then no doubt the skoda fabia will have the same imagen in a few years time!

Just a bog standard VRS, thanks for answering the question - apologies for my complete ignorance of the different combinations of letters on the back of Scoobs! :D

Soooo - if these things are so great, and so cheap, why are we all buying Skodas? Are the running costs and unreliability such an issue if the car only costs 15k in the first place?

Someday I'll manage to get a drive in one and find out.

well my last impreza that was modded (above dyno) was losing resale value very quickly (i do 30k miles a year) and averaged around 22mpg - sometimes as low as 18mpg.

i LOVED the car, and if I could afford it I would still be running it - but priorities (helping to fund my Grandmas care, paying off debts) dictated that it had to go.

Im now averaging 50mpg, lower insurance costs, warranty etc.

Ive had 2 imprezas, and I'll likely get another when my circumstances change.

my favourite thing about them was nothing to do with the straight line performance, although that did always bring a smile to my face, but the incredible grip, especially in the wet..

I love them.Never driven one or experienced one.Motorpoint of Derby advertising WRX AWD for

PS the basic flat four block famed by the impreza is extremely robust.

You have to drive like an idiot to break it. Unfortunately many people do drive that way, and dont let their cars (turbos) cool down after spirited runs, dont make sure oil levels are correct, run imports on standard unleaded with no additive etc etc.

PPS Ive seen someone talk about the scooby sound recently on here - and that burble (flatfourburble - i assume you got your name from this?) is there due to the unequal length headers - swapping them for equal length releases more power but at the cost of much of that sound...

You're right about the sound Ben.

I think Des told me here that they have funny cylinder heads or something which does give them that nice sound at the cost of performance.

I'll admit I'd love to have one as a fun car, but the running costs just keep on putting me off :(

I bet he regrets selling his impreza, I know which one id have.

Scoobys were lovely....until every f****r got one...too many around now, I reckon that puts people off.

Up the VAG boys..I wouldnt have any different....except an Evo 6!!!

Seems like badge snobbery is alive and well on Scoobynet...
