Are you representative of the majority Mike, in liking one and not the other? From pics I've found it seems the sequence went classic-bugeye-blobeye - so does that mean the bugeye was a mistake and Subaru hastily dropped the design in favour of a new one?

The other problem with Subaru ownership is the way everyone else on the road treats you - I leased a legacy (2.5 - not that quick) a while back and everyone tried to race me everywhere because it has the Subaru badge. Pain in the **** IMHO.

Then new imprezza is a minger too.

In a pinch yes! It went down well over in Japan, but here it killed sales (so I've understood).

Not the best looking car in the world.

Personally I like the classic first then the newier "blobeye"

do you mean this one?

Mmmm - just like a cross between a new Leon and an ugly thing! :P

I was having a look at a couple at Pro Drive at the weekend.

does look abit better in the flesh!!

new leon ay? maybe Subaru know that people know what VAG's so they have made theirs look like one

Andy, I keep meaning to go and have a nose around Pro Drive I see it oh so often on the trip up north

P1 is the best UK Impreza. ;)

A few other magical beasts are the 22B, the S201, and the S202, STi Type-R V-Limted which is my favourite (either V5 or V6).

The bug-eye is a slow old beast and the STI is roughly equivalent to a classic shaped turbo in straight-line performance to my UK turbo, but the handling was significantly improved with a stiffer chassis, bigger wheels (and brakes!) and a front LSD....

The blob-eye was meant to restore the raw appeal of the classic, but with the handling of the bug-eye, but I've never been out in one to know how it compares....

As with all the classics, Cossies, Quattros, etc, it's hard to find an unmodified one in good example and with prices falling, they're no longer as exclusive as they once were..... glad I had one and enjoyed it, but I won't be buying another one :D

Chris

I'd love to know what goes through the minds of car designers. We go through these waves of fashion where they all copy each other, each new idea more gross than the last. 2-3 years ago it was what I call "shoulders" - big creases down the sides of the bonnet. Everybody followed that one, even though it was completely pointless and ugly. Now we have "radiator grilles with a lozenge shaped aperture in the middle". What pointless design fad will be next?

Of course I've missed out "teeny tiny circular halogen foglamps", "lexus clusters", "one exhaust outlet at each side" etc. etc. etc.

It's as ugly in the flesh even in its WRC guise.

I was only in there to collect some tweeked parts. I'd not been before, only been to M-sport before.

The Type-R is nice indeed again in 2 door form which for some reason I think really suits the impreza!

Shame they dont come out with a new 2 door one  I'd still love to own one chris even if it was for 6 months. Still have a soft spot for the scooby regardless of it's faults.

Funny enough my dear old nan said to me the other day, it's just aswell you didn't get one of them scoobies, they get stolen all the time! Guess she is right lol

From stock, yes

S203 is for me the best ever made.

Type R v6 is a beast. My first Impreza was a Type R v4. Loved that car sooo much..

To clarify what Chris says here - bug-eye was just the first of the facelift 2001 onward impreza - also when they first officially started selling teh STi in the UK. All classic shaped STI's are imports.

Not all Bug Eyes are slow - the S202 was a bug eye for example ;)

Nr identical to bug-eye for the comparable model.

Chris

I'll get an S203 / s204 / s205 - whatever they are doing 'extreme' wise in 4 or 5 years time, when Ive got some cash. It will be a second car - not doing 30k miles a year in it like my last 2 !!

Shame they dont come out with a new 2 door one  I'd still love to own one chris even if it was for 6 months. Still have a soft spot for the scooby regardless of it's faults.

No faults with the car - ultra reliable, running costs were high (servicing cost the same as the Skoda! ), but not unaffordable, and it was a fantastic car to drive. The main reason putting me off now is the reputation they have acquired as well as their desirability to be nicked/car jacked .... which is something I'd rather not put my family at risk of, if I can help it :D

Chris

I really like impreza's and took a WRX not the STI out for a test drive, must say for the extra money the STI would do it for me as the WRX was a little dull, at the time I was driving a Clio 172 and this felt alot quicker TBH but handling wise the Scooby would be alot better. Thing is the 4WD system on the scooby I am lead to believe saps alot of power so that's probably why it felt slower.

I was seriously looking at the STI as I could of imported them a few years back for less than

i'm on the wrong site

Chris

Faults as in running costs, car jacking and it's image now days. Other than that reliabilty once I found them to be like you said ultra reliable if serviced and looked after (like you should to any car).

Like I say if I could run one as a second car I would ;)

If you wanna go halves, let me know ... insurance would probably be cheaper if it lived in Hampshire too...... ;)

Dont tempt me lol

Though think about it, car sharing something like that isn't a bad idear. Lets face it you wouldn't use it all the time and aslong as you have a good agreement it should work! :D

Thirds? :D

anymore takers

Nick get down to subaru and take one out on a test drive you know you want too!! :D

Damn right I do! :D Will they let me? :rubchin:

Not sure we have a dealer round here. Will check it out.

There is one in swindow just on the swindow road, though it depends on what swindon your from lol!

Cant see why they wouldn't let you, hell when I was 21 they let me ;)

Never been one for blagging test drives :o

Will look into it.
