Cheers Lee, I'll give it ago in the morning. I'll get Swmbo to throw water on the screen in her nighty, that'll get the neighbours talking

If the Mk3 is like the Mk2 you will have the large sensor panel on the front screen in front of the rear view mirror.

Yep go the sensor, just can't fathom out how to get them to work

Wiper positions are usually OFF, down for single wipe, UP one for auto and the left to right switch to set the sensitivity , UP two normal wipe, UP three fast wipe.

Cheers, I'll have a look tomorrow.

As Moley & Lee said, position 1 (which would be intermittent on cars without the auto-wipers).

There is also a sensitivity adjuster on the top of the wiper stalk where you can adjust how much rain it reacts to.

Its the same adjuster than would change the intermittent speed on non auto-wiper cars.

It changes the intermittent speed on cars that have auto wipers, but that are deactivated as well through the settings menu.

Yep make sure the auto wipers are enabled in the infotainment.

On the Mk3 its possible to turn off the sensor reverting back to normal intermittent wipe where as it was a coding job on older cars; quite good as the auto wipe on these IMHO isnt all that fantastic.

Sorry but I'm still not clear! :notme:  I've got both of the auto boxes ticked for auto wipe in the infotainment unit.  Which position should the wiper stalk be in for the auto wipe?

1x

Off

Low

High

Thank you.

Thank you. The manual shows a symbol on the stalk. Much obliged.

Is it possible to change or adjust the frequency/speed of the rear wiper when on auto-wipe??

During heavy rain, I want to slow the wipe frequency down so the wiper doesn't keep wiping a dry screen.

TIA

Maybe with VCDS of VCP but not by the car itself no.

It does my head in so Ive deactivated it.

Unless I am doing something wrong, (and yes its ticked in infotainment) the only time my rear auto wipes is when I put it in reverse, and then not straight away after start-up. bit of a pita as that's the direction I go out of my drive !

If you have the hatch then yes that's right. Although mine do work when I put it in reverse straight away aslong as the front have been triggered by rain before I move into reverse. Usually only during a serious downpour.

I find the auto wipers need resetting every time I restart otherwise they're a bit dumb !

Ah that explains it James, I thought it might be the case.

Generally I find they work quite well, like Mr no aim, I find I have to turn them off and then put back into auto often at start up (or wait a few mins but by then I am off down the road !). If it rains while I am driving they come on pretty reliably.

You do sometimes feel like there should be a sensitivity setting between far right and one in but hey, I never had a car with auto anything before, shows how quick you get used to creature comforts !

It's deliberate that the wipers don't start immediately when the car is turned on. If the windscreen is covered in frost or a lot of snow and you turn the engine on...Potential damage there.

Indeed, good point :)

Girlfriend (Now Mrs) turned on the wipers when the blades were stuck to the screen on my old Transit. There was a lot of noise and grinding before the fuse blew! Took me ages to straighten out the linkage and it never did work properly again. Needless to say she has not done it again!

It is a sensible precaution to protect the linkage.

My Mondeo wipes at startup if the autowipers are on. Really idiotic.
